The third year of the Great Patriotic War is drawing to a close. We have the hope, however faint, of punctuating it with another big victory.

We're pouring everything we can into the narrowing space between the Inhulets(?) and the Dniepr. If we can capture or bypass Berislav we only have to see what awaits us at Kherson.

Allied Turn: November 2, 1943

November starts off clear, if a bit cold.

As many units as can reach Berislav attack it. We lodge one unit against the river and back it with artillery to hold the town, and weaken the guns on the north end. A few units are looking to scout beyond this point.

Our best pilots go head-to-head with the FW190f. We get some good luck and manage to shoot more of them than they do of us.

The Cultists clear out another city.

Overhead, the battle is over as an auxiliary Yak-9 finishes off the German planes.

Axis Turn: November 2, 1943

Berislav is doomed, but they will keep fighting as long as they can to delay us.

We have a lot bearing down on Berislav and Kherson, although many of our units are running low on fuel. Berislav does not fall yet, but is significantly weakened. At Kherson, we spot entrenched infantry and some outdated tanks.

Axis Turn: November 6, 1943

One of the armored cars comes out to go after a T-70. The last FW190a makes its presence known. Our fighters are a bit weak from the battle of Krivoi Rog, and this is actually quite a ways from any of our airfields, so we can't expect an easy fight.

But they were unaware that on the ground we had a truck with an Air Defense gun in it, and with the return fire from our bombers and attacks from even our reduced squadrons, we are able to polish off the enemy planes. Quantity over quality wins again!

Berislav is finally emptied out and we're able to advance much of our force ahead. But the space in which to engage the units at Kherson is pretty small, and the defenders are very well-entrenched.

Axis Turn: November 10, 1943

We find to our dismay that quantity over quality wins again, but this time it's Panzer 38t's against our recently acquired T-34. Another tank unit lost.

We're able to clear most of the units on the north side of the city, but we aren't close to the heart of it. Unfortunately for our prospects the artillery units have had to stop and reload. There are some on the south end, which can help, but the tanks we have there aren't getting past the entrenched infantry or the 88 ATG.

All our forces keep coming, but most of them won't be able to reach the city before the harsh weather comes. Many of the core units that would never have made it here stayed in place and built up overstrength, so we're at least getting something out of it.

Axis Turn: November 14, 1943

Only one of our trucks is attacked, but it survives thanks to the ISU-122.

** LAST TURN **
The weather suddenly gets several degrees colder. It would sooner snow now than rain. Winter is just around the corner.

We clear more of the obsolete tanks, but can't really crack the defenses. We'd have to take out at least two units next to the city itself to move our forces in to capture.

A T-70 is able to push into the city, but the entrenched guns are too much to handle.

We make one last desperate attempt with the 51st Guards, and nearly lose them in the attack. Hopefully the Germans are too weak to strike back in the face of our ISU-122.

Axis Turn: November 18, 1943

Luckily for the 51st, they go for the more present threat of the T-70 in the city. The 88mm guns destroy it and take back the rest of the town.

A close one in the end, but only a Minor Victory for us.
