"Something witty."
Directed by: Peter Farrelly
Starring: Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Lauren Holly

Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) are two lovable losers whose ambition is to set up a store dedicated to the selling of earthworms.

But when one day Lloyd picks up a suitcase left behind by a woman he is smitten with, the two set out on a roadtrip to Aspen to return the case to her, unaware that two hired goons are on their tail with the same piece of luggage firmly in their sights.

The Farrelly Brothers’ breakout film, in contrast to the semi-subtle humour and comedy set pieces in their most successful movie There’s Something About Mary, fill Dumb and Dumber with consistently hilarious, usually lowbrow jokes that while not to everyone’s taste, remain generally inoffensive and light hearted.

However, the key to keeping this together so entertainingly is the brilliantly ignorant performances by Carrey and Daniels, who despite their constant display of incredibly dimwitted and obnoxious behaviour still manage to be sympathetic to the audience and have fantastic chemistry together.

Unfortunately the rest of the cast fails to match the two leads, with only Harland Williams' small turn as the piss drinking cop being the only highlight amongst the actors. The comedy also falters towards the end as the story wraps up in familiar fashion but at least the audience is given a small conceit with the handling of the final scene in the movie.

Dumb and Dumber isn’t quite up to par with the great Mary, but still remains a very entertaining lowbrow comedy with some gut-bustingly hilarious scenes.

3.5/5

PROS: Carrey and Daniels’ performances.
CONS: A limp climax.

Jack Bauer is my hero.
Excellent comedy, one that I can never get tired of. I remember seeing this in theaters way back when it first premiered (1996, I believe?) and laughing so hard...even though I was only around 10 years old at the time.

Great for laughs.

Without a doubt one of the funniest comedies ever. I don't think any other movie has made me laugh as much as this.

One of the best all-around comedies ever. Both actors do a wonderful job in their roles, and this is my favorite Jim Carrey movie. You MUST see this movie or all your friends will make fun of you...if they dont already.

Some of the funniest material i've ever seen, although the grossout humor dies off a bit over time. still, great for its time and for its intended audience.

I can quote every line from this movie, That's how much I like it.

I've seen this film well over 50 times and every time I still notice one little thing, one small line, or something in the backround, that I didn't notice the last time. That's why I love this movie.

Oh yeah and it's loving hilarious.
