There's a new UGC Dragonfall module out called Mercurial. I've noticed a lot of new art assets in the game that were nice to see, including getting dropped off by a moving bus (which caused some stuttering with Unity, but whatever).. Then I saw this: I want one.

Some nice storytelling gameplay options. It's rough around the edges with typos and they appear to have had a bit of a learning curve with the dialog system. You can tell they changed the timeline to 2050 from 2054 with some mentions of The Ripper and stuff. But it's the best UGC I've played for the first hour, at least. edit: I'm a little further now and there's a lot of incomplete dialog that hasn't been filled in. For example, I walk up to some gang members up to no good and get to choose which etiquette to use (no dialog or description)and they say "Didn't think about it like that before" and run off. rocketrobot fucked around with this message at 18:16 on Aug 15, 2015 |

When Hong Kong comes out, I'm going to finally learn how to use the editor so I can do a Renraku Arcology Shutdown campaign. I've been waiting for years for someone to make it but, nothing.

What you need to do is find the e-mail from back in April when you filled out the survey and click the link to the survey again, because the post-survey page it'll take you to is the only way to look at your rewards. If you've lost/deleted the e-mail, there's a link on the backerkit front page to have them send you another link to your survey (and subsequently your actual "account").

There are both backer and kickstarter accounts on backerkit. I have a backer account that I've used for all my surveys. By logging in I can see the kits of all the games I've backed (that used backerkit).

Yeah, it's a little weird because it's kind of incomplete, there's still some placeholders and a lot of minor bugs, this is more like a public beta test for the module. It's well made, though, and I'm really hard on user mods. The level design is genuinely really atmospheric and good, more atmospheric than the HBS stuff, everything is grimy and dirty and dimly lit in a cool way. It's fun, and the best module so far. The writing is not bad but it's very over-the-top shadowrun, the slang, jargon and references are really excessive, it's like 500% of what they used in Dragonfall. It's also at times way over-written, just walls of exposition and characterization. And weirdly, the game often gives you way too many options that don't actually mean anything, like this is a very Mercurial dialog moment, six goddamn options that basically all do the same thing.

Thanks for trying to give me a heads up anyways Felinoid. I Got that impression when I first looked at the site myself the other day. Last night I made an account for backers on backerkit . com and got my key and various soundtrack downloads (also showing there, Satellite reign stuff. which I already got installed anyways). I totally agree that the backerkit site thing feels wonky as hell.

Yep, I agree completely. Is is just me or is there new music in it as well? They did a great job on the atmosphere and really just need a hardass dialogue editor to come in and clean house.

It doesn't include a long prefatory aside stuck between brackets where the NPC's physical mannerisms are described in lengthy purple prose that includes lots of mentions of eyes that eyes that flash or sparkle or gleam and the use of the word grins/smiles/laughs followed by an adverb meant to convey to us a sense of the character's interior life. Basically fan-dev creators have never heard the dictum "show, don't tell". Except for those whose characters have dialogue so flat as to be emotionally dead and talk like they're appearing in a corporate HR's new employee introduction video or one of the terrible pornos created before our greatest porn scientists discovered that porn didn't need a plot. The only game that was ever able to get its community to deliver truly good fan-made content(as in real game story content, not boobs on mudcrabs content) was Neverwinter Nights. Not sure how, probably a combination of the sort of the D&D nerd drawn to the game, the ease of creation, and the inability given graphical limitations to create a million different airbrushed softcore 'companions' and appropriately creepy armor.

A bit disappointed with the Hong Kong soundtrack. Not much stood out, just a lot of fairly bland ambient music. Half-Life had an absolutely incredible mod scene that has basically never been surpassed. Planet Half-Life had a Mod of the Week feature showcasing the best mod released that week and they managed to keep it going for something like three years. Right at the intersection of good enough tech to allow creators to be creative and bad enough tech for that creation to not be terribly onerous.

That or make a new thread or something. I was actually reading the earlier posts of this thread and it seemed like everyone was making GBS threads on Shadowrun Returns being kickstarted, while praising how Wasteland 2 and Broken Age were kickstarted and yet in the end, I'd say even Dead Man's Switch ended up being better than both of those games. Was a fun time warp back to 2012.
