The four beast arc was the start of the comic going from being a good shonen to me saying "wait what the gently caress" most chapters. It's hard to pick a favorite, because everything after that was so so perfect.

The beginning of the air arc was incredible, the 2 page spread of toriko intimidating the demons there is just *image of pizza box guy giving okay sign with hand*

My fave is the century soup arc
Its the one I can most reliably recall the events of in correct order. That makes it good imo.
Also all protags involved were struggling super hard and it had some cool rear end fights.

It's real unfortunate how the anime turned out. There was some incredible content there and some of the material managed to come out better than the comic did, but there was just a mountain of filler that made tons of it unwatchable

I loved how the ultimate attack of the Four Kings, the personification of their combined appetites, was motherfuckin' Pac-Man.

For a second I thought you were talking about the One Piece anime. :v:

I won this avatar on a technicality this thick.
My favorite parts would have to be the 7 "trials" Ichiryu puts Toriko through.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, there's not really much filler. Tina is a pointless addition, but I wouldn't call her a mountain of filler.

I definitely disagree, but I also can't usually bring myself to watch shonen anime because of how much filler and padding it has to have.

Sure, 80% of it was great, but another 20% was basically unwatchable for me!

Any idea how it fared in Japan? I'm guessing not great if it got cancelled, but toriko definitely gets better as it goes, so I could see people losing interest early

The Calories thing was a bit iffy, but it was fantastic otherwise.

I agree on Gourmet Casino though, the game aspect was fun as hell and Livebearer was wonderful. Pair is a very close second. So much monkey business.

That's not how the Triangle Attack works...
Casino arc is one of my favorites because the fight is more of a battle of wits than a typical shounen fight, and because so much new food gets thrown around. Livebearer's faces and everyone getting buff from the meteor garlic is also extremely good.

I just liked how it shown that people are so obsessed with food that they'll even settle for a memory of that food. Or the first time Toriko went to the gourmet world. It was hilarious to see him get trounced so casually by entry level ingredients.

What?

Out of all the crazy stuff thrown around in the rush to the end nothing will ever beat Gourmet Luck for me.

Like, even in this universe where people are attacking each other with their appetites, the fact that loving Luck ends up being weaponized is so loving amazing. At first it was just a thing that let Food Jesus Komatsu get access to ingredients but it literally turned into a tangible effect that could be utilized at will. And in order to use it, like every other attack, it was dependant on your appetite being compatible with it and able to take advantage of it. Characters were being so fuckng hungry that they ate the concept of luck itself and started using it offensively. And like any other attack, Luck was a thing you could use too frequently and run out of.

Characters were literally willing the universe to bend in their favor and that somehow was one of the least important powers.

So I just read the last chapter again in the official release and what the ever loving gently caress did I miss some more extensive discussion on the final page? Because I didn't notice it on Mangastream but on that final spread there is a giant guy like crucified on a planet and two loving guns just floating in space along with what I think is a bullet. Are they ingredients??

Everyone except Zonge who had the most food luck, who allowed Midora to heal the planet.

I'm rereading it and I've been getting a lot of early reps like Komatsu drolling over Melk Knives and Kuriboh's pots during the Century Soup Arc which is so cool. Also this

afu~
Toriko vs Tommyrod was easily the best fight, since it had all the crazy ultraviolence, but there was actual tension to it because by that point characters hadn't started regrowing limbs casually.

Jewel meat still gets the best foodgasm award from me though.

toriko was incredibly outmatched against tommyrod and he only barely won after giving up an arm. what's more, he didn't immediately get delicious food as a reward for winning. it took komatsu a few months to figure out century soup.

Finally was able to catch up on the last 70 chapters over winter break. This series was amazing.

I really liked the precision stuff like the puffer whales "arc".
