Deadman's Cross is a card-based battle phone game, much like Guardian's Cross (hey they're made by the same company, even) or Pocket Knights. It has an arena system, a FPS hunting system, card management, leveling up, and a pretty drat good translation. It's also new, having been released last February, so getting in on the ground floor is easy and beneficial for a new player. :shobon:

It is also fairly lax with its IAP system, giving you Deadman Coins (the IAP currency) from Jobs and as Log-in Bonuses. Also, there are only two things to spend the coins on; Elite Hunts and Energy Drinks, both of which do not confirm you getting the best cards (only increasing your chances), so it skirts around being completely pay-to-win.

YOU ARE a no-name normal dude who, unlike everyone else, decided to stay inside when the government told you to. Three months later, your supply of food and water runs out and you decide to poke outside and see what's up. You somehow also have a rifle, and immediately use it to shoot zambambos roaming around your home district. From there, you meet Oliver, Lala, and the Boneyard MC, all of which teach you the basics of the game (from FPS shooting to card management, to jobs and dungeons).

Disclaimer: Most of this information was gathered from around the web, but namely https://deadmanscrossforum.com and the various threads within, so credit to those duders.

The Basics // Hunting

The game's lore handwaves this away, but any 'deadman' you shoot in the hunt segments of the game are added to your collection, and will fight for you. Gameplay-wise, it's a unique take on the booster pack system that comes with most of these types of games. It's unknown when or how the cards you get are generated (either on confirmed deadmen kill or on loading the hunt section probably).

There are two types of hunts - Standard and Elite. The first Standard Hunt of the day is free, every hunt afterwards requires a Standard Hunt Permit/Ticket (hereafter SHP or SHT); these include your garden variety deadmen, but also includes Rare, Epic, and Legendary tiers as well (at an obvious lower rate of appearance). The Elite Hunt requires Elite Hunt Permits/Tickets (hereafter EHP or EHT); these only include Rare, Epic, and Legendary tiers of deadmen. You cannot get any Common or Uncommon deadmen on an Elite Hunt, however it also doesn't guarantee you a Legendary either.

You use your left thumb to move the camera around during a hunt, and your right thumb to press the 'fire' button. Most deadmen on standard hunts require two to three shots to kill, while on elite hunts 3, 4, and 5 shots. The number of shots required doesn't really determine if you land a rare card or not, but generally I've found that the more hits it takes, the rarer it is.

You have five shots with your rifle, after which, you go through a 2 second reload animation. Generally, if you have one shot left, it's better to waste it and reload while searching for the next deadman. If you are attacked while hunting, it fucks up your aim and costs you a second, but otherwise does nothing (you have no health bar).

Each of the different shapes of deadmen determine which 'type' you receive.

For instance, in Gould Square, the walking male deadmen will always barf up one of either:
1*: Bank Robber, Cameraman, Courier
2*: Magician, Subway Conductor, Long Legs
3*: Colonel, Biker
4*: Pincer Hulk
4*+: Four-Star General
5*: Abraham Lincoln (yes you read that right)

Also, each of the hunt locations has a gimmick associated with them. Gould Square has fire barrels that explode with one shot, and take out any nearby deadmen instantly, Clayton Cemetery has a Flamethrower power-up that not only provides an instant-kill on hit confirm, but lasts about 8 seconds (you usually rack up about 4-6 kills with this, pretty good), as well as deadmen who will throw things at you, and finally Tumbleweed Casino has deadmen that carry tokens on them; upon death, a slot roulette will play in the upper left corner, giving you a random buff from either: +10 seconds hunt time, all deadmen stunned, all deadmen vulnerable (instant kill), instant reload, loving nothing, and lucky 777 (I have no idea what this does).

:siren:Finally, if you hunt a 3* Silver Chick, hold that poo poo. Not only are they great for feeding (being the best thing to feed next to Golden Chicks, even for Legendary cards) but when trading, this is one half of the currency typically used (The other being boosters, which will be covered later).:siren:

The Basics // Deadmen Management

The deadmen you collect from hunting is placed into your collection, where you can then choose to put them on your 'City' (PvE) or 'Boneyard' (PvP) teams, as well as feeding or boosting.

In general, when starting out, you want to sell your 1*'s / Commons, and use your 2*s and 3*s as feeders or units on teams. The 1*s don't give out enough EXP for it to be worth the Hardware cost (feeding costs Hardware, the game's currency) past level 10, while 2/3*s work all the way up to level cap. Focus on one and only one unit until it is level capped; this makes it much, MUCH harder for you to be beaten by the NPCs or in the Boneyard. Also, don't dump silver chicks into anything not a 4* or 5*; it's a waste, since eventually you will be replacing your 3*s.

Each deadman has a type associated with it, such as Burner, Spitter, Leecher, etc, which governs what its weak and strong against, and also what skills it obtains as it levels up. For example, Burners (such as the Colonel) get Burner+1 at level 1, but also Burner+2 and Burner+3 as it levels up. You can only socket three skills, and each card learns five total, so you get some customization there. Some abilities, such as First Blood or Self-Immolation, trigger once a condition is met (Self-Immolation triggers on death, and deals damage to the enemy...usually. It can miss!). I cannot find any information on which type deals more damage to what, but I do know that Chiller deals critical damage to Burner. :negative:

Charmer is a special case, as every Charmer skill has a chance (albeit a small one) to instantkill the enemy; this includes Legendaries and the like. It may not work on other Charmers, however, but I have had my level 1 Nun kill a level 60 Abraham Lincoln instantly. Charmers are really, really good!

Each deadman you hunt also has a secondary attribute that governs it's stats: their type. The types are as follows:

Mental: +10% to Psyche / -5% to Attack
Quick: +10% to Speed / -5% to Health
Strong: +10% to Attack / -5% to Intelligence
Smart: +10% to Intelligence / -5% to Defense
Fresh: +10% to Health / -5% to Speed
Tough: +10% to Defense / -5% to Psyche
Average: No change in stats // Baseline stats
Perfect: +10% to every stat

Obviously, you want 'perfect' cards, but other types will work in the long run (as long as they match the skills; for example, a Strong Satan would want mostly attack based things like Beatdown+3)

The stats for each card are as follows:

Health: Pretty basic, more HP
Psyche: Your mana pool, the more Psyche a card has, the more abilities it can use.
Attack: The higher this is, the more damage your physical skills and regular attacks will do.
Speed: The higher this is, the faster you are; if you are several points higher, you can even get a double hit (which is extremely important in the Arena!)
Defense: Mitigates damage done by physical attacks.
Intelligence: Determines damage dealt by special attacks and also mitigates special attack damage.

You can boost the stats to a certain degree using boosters. Boosters are of different types, and each type comes in different ranks.

Each stat, generally, can be boosted. Pillows raise health, dumbbells raise attack, sneakers raise speed, football helmets raise defense, and books raise intelligence. I forget what raises Psyche, but there's something I'm sure. There are also different tiers of boosters, ranging from Used (+2 to a stat), Brand New (+10 to a stat), Luxury (or lux in shorthand, +30 to a stat) and finally, Gold-Plated (+100 to a stat).

The Basics // Dungeons

You can only access dungeons while on a specific Job (more on that in a bit); however, each job takes you to one of the several dungeons (ranging from an abandoned subway, to an old manor, to a park). Each and every dungeon, including the end-game stuff, only costs 5 stamina per tap; and you have 50, but this can be increased by finding creatine drinks (which are rare). Stamina replenishes at 1 every 3 minutes, so in two and a half hours your stamina will be full again.

There are a few things that can happen to you while you traverse the dungeon:

1. Deadman encounter - pits your City horde against an NPC horde / +5 Exp and a random amount of Hardware
2. Door - Does nothing, allows you to tap on the door to proceed or on the critical path to ignore / +4 Exp and random amount of hardware
2a. Deadman Encounter - same as above but tougher/ +5 exp and a random amount of Hardware
2b. Nothing
2c. Quest item - grants you a portion of whatever quest item you're after
3. Mystery Container - Gives you either a Standard Hunt Permit, a Boneyard Pass, or Hardware
4. Lasers - Lasers appear crossing your screen; if you tap while the lasers are up, you fight a Deadman Encounter, but if you tap when the lasers fade, you get a good amount of hardware.
5. Rubble - Tap repeatedly to break through the rubble in time and get an item. Never failed it so I don't know what happens if you don't do it.
6. Pit - Wait for the icon to fall within the marked area, and tap to jump the gap; if you fail, you get sent back to the first area of the dungeon.
7. Split path - Path is split into two; one path is correct, the other leads to a dead end, which, if you find, sends you back to the fork to go the other way.
8. Mine - Play a 50/50 guessing game on defusing the bomb; if you're right, you get a lot of hardware. If you're wrong, you lose 100 hardware.
9. Hidden Characters - Sometimes, during certain jobs, you'll come across a Door with an X or Arrow painted red. If you go inside, you will trigger a Side or Hidden job, which will be available to you from that point forward in the Last Drop.

Once you complete the objectives of a job, you are booted from the dungeon; however, you can always redo a job you've completed to find the extra stuff (however, at reduced rewards for the initial job completed).

The Basics // Jobs

Jobs are available for you to pick up from the Last Drop, a tavern run by Lala. The types of jobs available to you are based on your Reputation, which goes up as you complete jobs. There are a colorful cast of characters to accept jobs from, ranging from Oliver, that poo poo kid that treats you like a moron, to Double Deuce, a gangsta jus' lookin' for his benjis, young buck, to a :siren:PRO MLG NECKBEARD:siren:. This game takes the piss out of a lot of people, and again, the translation work is pretty top notch.

You can accept only 1 Hunt job and 1 Search job at the same time; however, there is no penalty to dropping a job and coming back to it (except that you lose any progress made on said job).

Finally, there are time-limited Event Jobs that appear from time to time. You typically only have a day to complete them, sometimes more, sometimes less.

The Basics // Boneyard

The arena is where you can go to show off your totally rad horde of zimbabwes. The Boneyard is split into two categories, Amateur and Rookie, with an Expert BY on the way. The better you perform in the Boneyard, the higher your rank; the higher your rank (during Midweek and Final tallies) determines your prize. Amateur can only be accessed if you're under level 9, however, once you start a BY for the week, you are locked in and cannot move to another. Yes, if you level past 9 while locked into Amateur, you will be able to play there for the remainder of the week.

The top percentage (I think ranks 1-200 for Amateur, 1-300 for Rookie) gets a Legendary Bordered card with a Virulent or Pestilent prefix. Virulent gives a +2% to all stats, Pestilent gives a +5% to all stats (however all of the cards have an Average rating I believe, making Hunted legendaries stronger depending on rating). There is also a restriction on 'bordered' cards for the boneyards; only 1 bordered may be used on your team for Rookie, and in Amateur, you may have none.

The real prizes are the Boosters; Ranks S+, S, and A+ get Gold-Plated boosters, while A, B+ and B get Luxury, which are very useful in trading.

Also, in the Amateur boneyard I reached rank 199 (barely) with a Level 55 Perfect 4* and one other 4* (I think Yuki Onna, she was at level 10) and secured myself a 5* prize. It's entirely possible for you to roll in and reach Rank A or A+ easily with mostly 3* monsters.

The Basics // Trading

Unfortunately, SE decided not to put a Bazaar system or even an auction house into the game; in order to trade, you must do it the old fashioned way of messaging the person and striking a deal (or using a forum, of which, the most popular is https://deadmanscrossforum.com). You can purchase 2 and 3* feeders with silver chicks or boosters, 4* units with silver chicks or boosters, and 5* with boosters.

In general, save up your silver chicks and trade for 4* or 4*+ Perfect traited deadmen; then focus on leveling them to cap. Stockpile your Brand New, Luxury, and Gold-plated boosters. You can do whatever you want with the Used stuff, they're not popular.

The Basics // Clans

There's a clan system, but I have no idea how it works, and I doubt you can do anything with it in-game at the moment. Here's hoping SE does this soon!

The Basics // Friends

Every day if you 'support' your friends, you get a point. 10 points allows you to play the roulette, and you can only have 20 points stockpiled at any time. The roulette has anything from a small amount of hardware to a 5* Legendary (Issac Newton). Support your friends and spin spin spin, lots of people have won the Legendary already so it's not that uncommon.

Also, when you hunt a Silver Chick, you can create a copy and give it to a friend for free. This 'chick trading' is pretty important, so find yourself a buddy and make sure you both mutually do the trading thing. It's a great supply of Silver Chicks, which makes it easier to level and trade.

Download Link and Invite Code

That's an awful lot of words for a phone game, but I wanted to make sure I compiled as much info as I could. If you're interested, here's the link to play. If you use my Invite Code (6YJ8SPH), at level 5 you will get a free Charmer rare (Nun), which is very good for starting out, and probably the only 3* I'd bother trying to take to level cap.

Recent Events

Tumbleweed Casino was added, and with it a lot of new deadmen. Also, for April Fools, they turned all the helpful NPCs (Oliver, Clan Head, Lala and Boneyard MC, into deadmen).

I wish I had read the OP before starting to play, that's some really useful information. My referral reward (I used a code from someone who reviewed the game on the Play store) was a Pit Babe instead of a Nun, though. I dunno if they changed it, or if the reward differs depending on the code, or what.

OP said Nun was the only 3* worth the time so is Pit Babe just as good?

Big thanks to those who sent silver chicks my way, it really helps!

Should do fine against cats.
I had a Colonel I pumped up to around level 25 that served me extremely well until I capped Marie Antoinette. I think any 3* would be decent until you get a 4/5*. I had a pit babe, stripper, nurse combo I pumped up to Lvl 10 backing my colonel and that got me through a lot of jams. I'm S+ in the under 9 Boneyard right now just from feeding that Colonel.

The Hunting missions are really getting on my nerves, Hunt X type/number and the game refuses to give you more than a few required deadmen.

That aside this game is definitely a good F2P game, I have tried spending a bit and to be honest it doesn't help much. This game is solely based on the time invested and your skill in the FPS sections.

I've noticed that I'm really running out of hardware for the first time now that I have a few cards near max.

What's the best use of deadman's coins by the way? I've done a couple elite hunts and only get 3 stars so I'm starting to wonder if I should use them on stamina potions instead.

Also, what's the easiest 5 star to get? I'm assuming the one for logging in daily, and there's the lottery one that I haven't managed to snag yet.

I'm not sure how stamina potions would ever be better than greater chances at 4-5 star creatures, but that is just my take.

:respek: If we had a restaurant we'd be selling Silver Chick Möbius Strips by the truckload.

A tip for those starting out: depending on how fast you charge through the quests, you might start hitting a wall when the monsters jump from 10-ish to 25 all the sudden. If you're like me, this will happen shortly before you hit that sweet, sweet level 10 so you can trade away all those chicks for real Deadmen. If you find yourself at this juncture, :siren:do not be afraid to replay old misions!:siren: Your rewards won't be as stellar but if you find yourself regularly losing to NPCs in a mission you should probably fix your loadout or back-track for easier experience. Otherwise you'll be pissing stamina down the drain which is basically the worst thing you can do (I know, I was doing this). Once you're at level 10 with all those chicks, the world is your zombie oyster.
