Meet Me in St. Louis was really good British post-hardcore / math rock that was only around for a few years. Their album Variations on Swing is still one of my favorites. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_atJaHuTdk I have no idea how 'obscure' they are, but they do have a wikipedia page, and are definitely much less known than Tennis.

lt_kennedy posted:Purity Ring - digging through the dreck that is the 'Witch House' scene there are some excellent bands that make unbelievably pretty and well made electronic music, Purity ring are a little like Ladytron. You can at least find their album 'Shrines' on Spotify. This is an old post I know but I looked some of these bands up and I kinda dig it. But yea, there is a ton of lovely stuff out there to sort through. Can you recommend any albums or files or what ever?

I think The God Machine are pretty obscure, or at least descended into obscurity after the death of their bassist. Their albums are nigh impossible to get hold of unless you're willing to fork out a king's ransom. I never was a huge fan of early 90s alt-type grungy stuff, but these guys were pretty special. Louder heavier stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjt7spa5G5U Somewhere in the middle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4MHTbwt-Xw And softy stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ6vMN-szng

I don't know what you kids are calling "extremely obscure" these days, but you should definitely listen to the Japanese electronica group Sketch Show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuXVnmrwJC0 Ekot (Cornelius Remix) -- personally, I think the remix is better than the original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFP1dvqBMco Traum 6.6

Not sure how obscure these guys are, but here's Bohren and der Club of Gore with some German ambient alt-jazz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg7iCEZ-8b0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLEb0PPsWWg

Sketch Show was a project with 2/3 and sometimes all members of YMO, so I am not sure they fit any definition of obscure. That said they are still good. http://18carataffair.bandcamp.com/album/pure-gold I like this guy's music a lot. He makes very short songs out of samples and clips of other things on betamax apparently. He is probably among the most interesting of all the artists who sample 80s stuff on bandcamp, etc, in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NKZuD6cnBI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhseE3ZA-GQ I really like this song. hallo spacedog has a new favorite as of 20:29 on Aug 10, 2014 |
