For lifting, heavy metal on Pandora. I just typed in Mastodon and listen to whatever. For running or any cardio my favorite is Crystal Castles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dK3Tzf8KwA Also like the first half of Andrew WK's album I get wet for getting me in the mood to run a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rvsn3iSvAP8

Hatebreed all the time, there a bit of a marmite band but the riffs are good to keep pace to and the lyrics inspirational kind of like a metal version of survivor http://youtu.be/Ur2hNZLynhQ Also Survivor

For just about the entire time that I have ever rowed on a team, whenever I would have to take a 2k test (row 2000 meters on a rowing machine, takes around 7:30-8:30 for women and 6:30-8:00 for men), I would always listen to Mars Volta, specifically Goliath, because it would fit just about perfectly into the timeframe of the test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEIJ8O-Mimo

I actually just started to put together a workout playlist and, so far, I just got this one. Re-Education Through Labor - Rise Against http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnbvOi4SpSk It's just got a very fast and intense beat to it that I find perfect when I'm doing cardio.

Some of Disturbed, Rammstein, Oomph!, Daft Punk and Rob Zombie are pretty good for a steady beat to exercise to. I admit they're not always great to listen to, but I like them for doing calisthenics. Also "Driving With The Top Down" from the Iron Man soundtrack.

Unapologetically Korean pop. If there's anything overly-orchestrated, obnoxiously peppy music is good for, its making me run. The lyrics are just as stupid and terrible as the pop music made in the US but since I don't understand the lyrics I don't even care. That and the fact that the people making the music are 500% fitter than I will ever be, so it's good motivation to be less lovely at running.

I've always been a fan of Soundgarden while working out. When I need some encouragement I'll supplement with "Blood and Thunder" by Mastodon or "Twilight of the Thunder God" by Amon Amarth.

I always found that rather than looking for good typical "workout music", it's best to just listen to stuff you actually enjoy regardless of tempo. Whatever puts you in a generally good mood helps working out tremendously.

Mostly listen to audiobooks. And non-fiction at that. But when a book ends in the middle of a workout I'll go to my playlist of select songs from various genres like oldies, metal, dubstep, rap, couple of folk, showtunes, etc etc.

Almost exclusively podcasts. I can't run if the beat is different from my pace, and rather than sperg out and create a list full of songs that perfectly mimic my warm-up, "regular," and cool-down paces, I just listen to stuff without beats.

Jon Hopkins' "Open Eye Signal" is great for long, sustained runs. The song just burns you up inside. This is an obscure one, but it's the perfect tempo and is great for sprints Assorted techno SISTA MOOSESHA!!. The Parappa 2 soundtrack is my designated house-cleaning album.
