Insurance companies run a racket with the hospitals. Hospitals essentially have a price list of what every insurance company will pay and what they will pay for. insurance companies, nickel and dime millions of people and set aside a set amount of their profits to pay hospitals what they want. then either or can just raise prices for whatever they want and balance the books with each other. Obama care forced insurance companies to have to pay for more things at fixed prices, which meant they had only one group they could charge to make up the new difference without it hitting their profits, their customers. So they just pass all the new gov fees onto us.

I got a splint for a broken thumb five years ago and it was basically plastic that they heated up in a tub of hot water. I asked how much the "machine" cost and the therapist said $3000.
