 So I ran across this show from the creator of Children of Men, and it's watchable for Summer fare, so gently caress it let's have some goons jump in and tear it apart. It's really low budget and set in the near future. Here's what you need to know. From Wiki: The Lottery is an American post-apocalyptic drama television series that premiered on Lifetime on July 20, 2014. The series is set in a dystopian future when women have stopped having children due to an infertility pandemic, and stars Marley Shelton.  Character/Alison Lennon Alison Lennon is a driven and talented young scientist who has a breakthrough creating 100 viable embryos in a world that is facing extinction. Propelled into the limelight because of her discovery, Alison soon learns that she’s entered into a world of deceit, intrigue and murder.  Character/Darius Hayes Darius Hayes is the Director of the US Fertility Commission and uses whatever tactics he feels is necessary to ensure the greater good of the nation during the global fertility crisis. His arrogance and hubris lead him to believe that only he can lead the country out of these dark times.  Character/Kyle Walker Kyle Walker is the proud father of Elvis, one of six children born in the past five years and a man who has one wish – to raise his son without government interference. Unfortunately, in the dystopian world he lives in, he soon learns no one is free to do as they please.  Character/Vanessa Keller Vanessa Keller grew up on the wrong side of the tracks but used her ambition and drive to propel herself into the position of Chief of Staff. Now that she’s attained her goal, she finds herself wanting more as she connives the president to hold a national lottery to find surrogates for the embryos. Unfortunately, power is slippery and she soon finds it can also be deadly.  Character/James Lynch James Lynch is an assistant scientist to Alison and her partner in crime when it comes to their quest to find a cure for worldwide infertility. Unfortunately, James feels Alison is not focused on the task at hand, which at times will cause him to doubt his loyalty to Allison.  Character/President Thomas Westwood President Thomas Westwood should be the most powerful man in the world but with the fertility crisis and dipping approval ratings hanging on his back, he relies heavily on his advisors in the decisions to govern the nation.  Character/First Lady Gabrielle Westwood First Lady Gabrielle Westwood has mastered the art of playing a political wife. She shelved her career and plans to have a family to support her husband’s political ambitions but wants desperately to have a child of her own. Yes, so Lifetime. It's not completely terrible, and I've been through the pilot. The episodes are available on the Lifetime site for a limited time, although the pilot has recently dropped off. This show suffers horribly from "every single human being on this show is too stupid to live and deserves to die" syndrome. Also, the technobabble is especially bad. This world must take place in the universe where vaccines really do cause autism.
