Legalize murder
For years I've been using Cubase 4. It's a little unstable and dated. I've saved a little money and now I'm thinking of upgrading to 7.5. Can someone who's been using 7.5 share the benefits of using the latest release?

64-bit, if you need more than 2GB RAM (e.g. large sample libraries). That's probably the only feature I use.

The UI is terrible (endless floating windows) and they've been making it worse over time. I prefer 6.5 UI actually. But it's still the best MIDI editing workflow I've found so I stick with it.

Snooping as usual, I see.
I meant to reply to this earlier.

The bundled instruments and effects are leaps and bounds better than what was bundled pre-Cubase-6. The more I use Cubase the more I find myself using the bundled tools, so that's a big deal for me.

One tiny little thing in 7.5 that they should have done years ago is re-record mode. You can set it so that if you gently caress up while recording, you can just slap REC again and it will re-record from the top. I have used this many times.

Track visibility is also great. You can choose which tracks you see in both the piano roll and mix console, which makes navigating big products much better.

Did Cubase 4 have VariAudio? Cubase 5 had a primitive version of it, but the version in 7.5 is very useful and usable.

Oh- I've been using the new TrackVersions a lot too, when trying out different variations of MIDI parts without doing all the track duplicating and muting that I used to do when tweaking a part.

Stability wise 7.x finally settled for me with 7.5.2. 7.5.3 is the current version; I haven't installed that patch yet. But actual crashes or functional glitches have been very rare.

I still occasionally (every few months) have an issue where one day Cubase just decides to stop loading. Deleting the preferences folder always fixes that, but I've never figured out why the settings just inevitably go bad like that.

Anyway, I think 7.5 is definitely a wortwhile upgrade from 4.
