How come the dwarf didn't get his own large retarded man to ride around on? It wouldn't bug if large retarded men simply weren't used as beasts of burden in that society but they clearly gave one to the crippled kid to ride on. So why didn't the dwarf get one too?

In the books Tyrion is bigger (like four and a half feet tall) and stronger, basically a Quasimodo-like character. He actually fights in the battle scene in the first book. And also when he strangles Shae it doesn't look so highly improbable!
