From what I've seen the NFL does seem a lot more like a commercial event than a sport. Same with NASCAR. I guess that's quintessentially American.

You can go get beer and food at a hockey game for cheaper than a lot of restaurants. Unlike football where you pay 10x as much for tickets and beer to sit outside and watch 11 minutes of actual gameplay that takes 3 hours for maximum commercial time and to let the 350 lb athletes get their fat asses around the field without having a heart attack..

the food is identically priced unless you are talking about winnepeg or something

True enough. Anyway hearing about that death made me respect goal keepers a great deal more.

Once upon a time goalies didn't wear masks or helmets. I can only assume hockey goalies back then played the position as punishment for crimes in lieu of jail time.

I love that on hockey tickets it says something along the lines of "pay attention to whats going on cause if you're on your cellphone and get hit with stuff its your fault cause hockey is the best and you should be watching it right now"

I said 10x as much for tickets and beer, which is about right.

The NFL at first glance is a confusing sport since its full of stoppages, penalties that seem arbitrary, and tons of breaks in play. If you care to get interested, its one of the deeprs sports to follow since it has many more layers of complexity then some other sports. Each play often has tons of moving parts, the chess match of defensive vs offensive formations, man to man coverages, etc etc.

Plus you get to watch 300 lb men who can run faster then you did in high school slamming into people

Wow that guy has a huge gut. I suppose he's not made for making runs and needs to be built more like a sumo wrestler for tackling. But to be that big seems like overkill. I mean most people that size you'd think would be pretty immobile compared to the lighter players.

Once upon a time goalies weren't allowed to drop to the ice to make a save.

I used to think that about NASCAR until I went to a race. It is actually a lot of fun with no pretense. Are you around rednecks? Sure. Are you around annoying loving hipsters? Nope.

Also, the only sport where I can enjoy a cigar in the stands and literally no one gives a gently caress.

Once upon a time it was ungentlemanly to shoot the puck high.

Yeah it's just on TV that it annoys me. The drat commentators seem obliged to mention Sprint at least once every 30 seconds or they lose their jobs.

The crowd cheers when there's a pileup don't they? I love that, it's so honest. In other motorsports when there's a huge crash it's common courtesy to suppress your primal urges and excitement, put your hand over your open mouth and say "oh dear." But NASCAR fans just whip their shirts off and whirl them around their heads. That's cool.

E: At least I think that's what they do, I'm sure I saw them cheering crashes a few times but I might be wrong.

NFL is terrible to watch live at the stadium. TV is the only way to watch it because you don't have to deal with all the fatass drunks, who are just genuinely mean people who think its appropriate to keep up their bad reputation that ESPN popularizes by yelling death threats at 8 year old girls wearing opposing team clothing. It's also better at home because you can use the bathroom without walking through piss and puke, and without getting pissed or puked on. And you can take a nap on the couch during the 3rd quarter.

NHL is the best to watch live at the arena. The fans are friendly and all poo poo talking is good natured. There are more hot chicks at the game than at baseball games. You have a better view of the action than other sports. There is more action than in other sports.
