I'm addicted to British panel shows. Quite Interesting and Would I Lie To You are my favorites (and pretty much every episode of both are on youtube) but 8 Out of 10 Cats and Have I Got More News For You are also entertaining and a good way to learn about British culture and sound smart in front of your friends.

They have their moments but british tv is full full of them instead of good scripted comedy, and it's not a coincidence that 90%+ of the recommendations in this thread are between 10 and 30 years old. Virtually everything made in the last decade has been hot garbage. Is there anything good on anymore now The Thick of If is over and Peep Show does 6 or 7 episodes every 3 years?

Point well made, but hey it seems pretty popular, and that "live" thing they have going on is a nice touch.

No, because the average poster in this thread will be about 30 themselves, so a lot of the recs are rose-tinted, plus I doubt anyone watches that much telly any more. I couldn't tell you what's on BBC comedy nights these days, but years ago I watched them religiously.

if you want more recent suggestions you could try Lead Balloon. The concept gets a bit boring and just how much of a miserable evil poo poo the main character becomes is ridiclous but it's good.

also, if you ever watched my parents are aliens when you were a kid the dad is in it as a cafe owner.

Also, Jeeves and Wooster is amazing in the first few series, if it counts as a sitcom.

Yeah but British sitcoms are funny.

American sitcoms are written by people who saw something funny 20 years ago and vaguely remember what funny is.

Wish it wasn't on PBS every weekend since the beginning of time, but it's pretty good. Red Dwarf is alright, I remember it being a lot funnier when I was younger. Then there are some weird ones, like Open All Hours, cause I'm not really down with watching an old man try to get rear end for 30 minutes.

Anywho, what kinda crap do you watch Sunday nights?

If you like Are You Being Served? You'll like Allo Allo. Check it out. Always loved those shows. Maybe ill watch AYBS tonight.

That's the same in UK though, apart from a few gems all the good UK telly is from 10+ years ago. Or maybe i'm just older now and looking through rose tinted glasses? I remember my parents loving things like Porridge and the 2 Ronnies when I was young, I could just never get into it (although the worm that turned sketch was pretty good). It's just a generational thing. I'm sure in another 10 years people will be saying what a masterpiece 2 point 4 children was.

Of course there are some institutions which will be funny forever, like Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and Only Fools and Horses.

Here you go, have a list http://www.comedy.co.uk/guide/tv/top/

Word of advice though, skip the fourth series - they changed the location, the cast and everything else. It just feels like a lame spinoff.
