Mr. Nice! posted:I'm rewatching the fight now and almost done with round 1. Nurmagomedov never lets go of his grip around Trujillo other than to throw the occasional punch. He isn't at all trying to keep him down. He's deliberately chain throwing him. I think what happened was Nurmagomedov went to the clinch because he didn't want to strike with Trujillo, but then he discovered that Trujillo couldn't stop him taking the back, and once he was there Trujillo couldn't break the body lock. After he saw that Trujillo was helpless to defend that position, why would Nurmy do anything else? As you watch the rest of the fight you'll also notice that Nurmagomedov keeps trying to get to back mount, which would allow him to hold Trujillo down and maybe finish, but Trujillo does a good job of keeping him from flattening out and getting hooks.
