sugar alcohols are used as a sugar substitute sometimes but they can't be processed by the human stomach. they basically go completely undigested in to the small/large intestine where your gut bacteria nom nom nom that poo poo up and as a bi-product of the bacteria digestion you get a lot of gas as a byproduct. i forget the specifics of it. if you eat enough basically your GI tract becomes bloated with gas and liquid. of course sugar alcohols affect people differently some people aren't super bothered by it while others only need a relatively small portion to suffer from a complete rear end volcano

as to why they haven't been taken off the market? honestly, sugar substitutes aren't dangerous at all just don't eat more than the portion size you big goon

Goon law dictates that once you open a bag of Gummies you have to finish the entire thing in one sitting.

One time I got food poisoning from bad chorizo tacos and after making GBS threads my insides out like a flash flood I had no appetite and ingested nothing but carefully sipped water for 8 days. Look out for the bad chorizo.

Doesn't it kill the bacteria because the sugar alcohols have zero caloric value and the bacteria basically starve?

I think what he's saying is also that bacteria that feed on this particular nom get to thrive while everything else gets gassed which might be problematic

It's also why too much prune juice can cause explosive diarrhea/bloating from gas, it has a sugar called sorbitol that can't be easily digested by the body and also causes water to be pulled into the GI system.

naw your gut flora don't die im pretty sure sugar alcohols actually have a modest caloric value but for packaging/FDA purposes they have none because humans pretty much can't digest it at all in the stomach

your gut flora are pretty much omnipresent unless your GI is completely hosed. sugar alcohols get fed upon and the increased gas in the bowel draws in water through osmotic pressure i think. the combination of gas and watery stools is where things get problematic. again varies on person to person and how much sugar alcohols they consumed. 20g is borderline for symptons, 40g has greater potential for pain/misery and anything beyond that its like why are you even doing this stop

You should see the people here who got big into dabs. That poo poo can't be healthy. It's just like getting really really high when you do it here and there, but some people are taking it to a whole new level. It's like the heroin to herbs percocet, and I can't imagine we're going to be hearing good things about the health of people who do it nonstop daily 20 years from now.

Ah, a fellow poop academic. What was your major area of study? Mine was an offshoot. Not quite poop but very closely related. Cranal rectomology. Perhaps you had to take a beginner's course in it?
