Kona

Kona piles into the elevator, and immediately starts looking nervous again. "Ok, come on, let's go..."

My paper soldiers form a wall, five paces thick and twice as tall.
The emergency means the muzak in the elevator is turned off, at least. There's a soft ping as it reaches the basement, and the silvery doors open to reveal clean, white corridors, with colored stripes painted on the walls indicating directions for various services and locations. The AR signs are up, but the half of them that aren't flashing evacuation warnings are on the fritz, displaying garbled nonsense. Smart-lighting strips in the ceiling strobe yellow and red visual alerts. The place has the astringent smell of industrial chemicals, with petrochemical odors, a touch of ozone from high voltage electrical systems, and that scent of hot metal that defies analogy underneath it. And a hint of something else, something organic, decaying, like mold.

The team splits up, one group following a yellow guide to the security office, as the ceiling of the corridor directly to the cafeteria and locker room has collapsed, while the other traces the orange line to burst through immense double doors into Workshop 1.

Workshop one appears to be the least compromised by the explosion, most of the equipment still upright and little apparent structural damage. A shelving unit on the far wall has collapsed, spilling small pieces of metal and plastic - ratchet heads, driver bits, screws, bolts, and stranger things - across the floor. A pair of big industrial mechs are using their manipulators to break down a huge lathe for parts, while a team of four worker drones are getting plasma welders ready. All of them have the typical yellow-black paint scheme and heavy, square build of construction equipment. When the team enters, all of the robots pause for a moment. Then the drones heft the welders, forming up into a wedge. One of the mechs tosses aside the heavy metal housing it was tearing into strips, the three pronged grippers rotating as it takes what can only be described as a fighting stance. The other mecha turns and picks up a heavy bar of metal. Better take the fight to them quick.

In the security office, most of the systems are down. Even with Kim's codes, the computers are too compromised to respond effectively. The weapons locker hasn't been accessed yet at least. Probably in part because the explosion caused the door to buckle, wedging it shut. Unlocking it is easy, but it would still need to pried open. They can either input a self destruct code that will fry all the electronics in the stunners and anti-drone weapons inside it, removing them from the equation entirely before the opposition has a chance to get to them. That would be easy. If they can get inside, though...

The primary monitor in the office is displaying the feed from the cafeteria, where a squad of police drones and a gaggle of domestic drones with improvised weapons are holding six THI employees hostage. None of them are Dr. Kurita. Getting the drop on them would be tricky. But there might be a way to get an edge - the fire suppression system for that room still shows as operational. Domestic drones have a reputation for having trouble with the stuff.

Initial Challenge Post

Assumed Kona headed into Workshop 1 along with Catherine and Goro, and that Thomas and Mariko headed into the Security Office. Ridley has been busy with some things, so we'll work out where Jam is when Ridley is able to post again.

Camera in Workshop 2 goes down. The drones in the Drone Hangar build a barricade, making them harder to remove if you go into that room.

Wait a minute...
Catherine Nishikiori FP 3/5

Gibbering alarm systems, the fetid stench of ozone, an unavoidable feeling of menace. Catherine's at home now, though she can't quite decide if she likes it. The Proto-Armor seems to sympathize. The machine reacts to the ambient mold with a volatile mix of nostalgia and hate, and a ripple of doubt creeps through the cockpit.

She shuts it out with the slam of a lever. The Armor judders a bit and continues on.

"You know, Goro, there's a tea-house I know of that's come across a rather excellent Long Jing. Fresh, full-leaf, a marvelous aroma." The main camera swivels towards Kona. "And they brew a fine biotic nano-shake, or so I've been told. Hell, I'll treat the both of you once we make it back." You can hear her grin.

Industrial mecha appear, straight ahead. Both shoulder plates on the THI-90 retract, each revealing a set of 4 wide-bored tubes. Calculate the hypercone trajectory, orient the Gilmannian homing curves, no time for distractions; she's got one HWAC barrage before close combat and she's going to make it count. The equations sear through her mind with inhuman speed.

After about five seconds a swarm of red-hot magic sheathed spears screeches towards the closest mecha. Silvery strands float in the air between them, arcanetic field lines guiding the barrage to any weakness it can find: joints, cameras, unprotected wiring. The Ind-Mech raises its grippers to shield itself. But its stance buckles as critical system after critical system evaporates in the endless shower of flares. Soon its massive form crashes to the floor, reduced to a blazing hulk of Swiss cheese. One less problem.

Weeeeelp. Using my free invoke on Hell on Wheels, Legs, and More to bring that up to a +5, and invoke Experimental Security Guinea Pig Officer to bring it up to 7. I'll get those FP back somehow!

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
Thomas Atkin Tienni FP 5-3/5

Huh...Thomas probably wouldn't have minded the muzak, oddly enough. Something to take the edge off before the next phase of the operation. But he would probably be the only one like that.

The elevator doors open up, and Thomas slides by the rest as he turns and heads into the security office with Mariko. "There goes another one," he mumbles without emotion as another camera gets shot out. "Mariko, computer stuff seems more like your thing, so I'm just going to...hmmm..." He walks and kneels down by the weapons locker, the door warped and busted. Now, why in the world did the locker have a destruct button when it was in the security office of a laboratory and not a prison? If something was going down (like right now), security would probably open the thing up to take the weapons. And if something had broken into the security office (also like right now) the first thing the guard would do would not be to render their own means of defense useless. Probably some stupid corporate policy...

...speaking of corporate policies, he was probably in for it already after he shook the Director like a boston shaker. So what was one more violation between buddies? One might as well be hanged for a sheep as blah blah blah. Besides, they could definitely use the extra firepower. Mariko especially. She doesn't exactly have cyber swords, powered armor, or big gorilla muscles...okay, she has magic, but still.

"Hey, Mariko, if anybody asks..."

He reaches down and gets both hands on the locker door.

"...this thing was already open."

Yeah, let's go for the bonus! Rip this thing off with a nice +3 Physique!

Kona

As Catherine duels one of the mechs, Kona rushes the other one, skids underneath it's clumsy attacks, bounces off the wall behind it, and kicks it hard in the back of the head. As it topples forward, she zooms around it and arranges so a spiky chunk of metal happens to be beneath it's landing point.

My paper soldiers form a wall, five paces thick and twice as tall.
Thomas finds that the door is very well made. For a moment, it refuses to so much as shift. But time and pressure are the key. After a moment, he feels it give slightly. Then slowly, with the protesting squeal of over-stressed metal, the door bends back, then the damaged locks pop and the locker jerks open. Within, there are four rifle like weapons. Disablers. They'll emit an EMP that should scramble the electronics for the drones and mecha. Just don't get your phone in the line of fire.

Within the workshop, Catherine and Kona take out the industrial mecha. But the drones are still active, and angry looking.

Sorry for the delay, been really busy with school and stuff the last couple of weeks. Also sort of missing a couple of you?

Anyways two mecha go down and Thomas gets into the locker!

"Tea sounds positively wonderful. You know, I would have preferred to go, uh, downstairs with the rest. Just because I am perhaps a bit bigger than my colleagues does not mean that I am more fit for, ah, hostile environments. Perhaps the opposite!" He approaches the industrial drone, eyeing the blue flame of its torch. "People see a giant, talking gorilla, they tend to, say, react a bit badly." He tosses a bit of scrap its way, testing the drone. The metal turns to slag in an instant. "Suddenly, everyone is gunning for the ape. Doesn't matter if there's a wizard speaking will into blood and death--something primal about it--kill the monkey!" He gathers up a bundle of rods. "Darned speciest, that's what it is. Still, I suppose you do need your own specialist, in case you run into something outside of your wheelhouse." He throws the rods into the air above the drone. Its simple program, designed for welding with precision, simply can't handle multiple targets and is wracked with indecision. Goro seizes advantage, charging the drone so that when at last it fires its torch his mighty hands are guiding the blast. Slag rains down perfectly on the drone, without so much as a drop hitting the doctor, the rapidly cooling alloys seizing up the machine's joints.

You know, I was in the supermarket, saw a bunch of Gorilla Munch and realized "Oh poo poo, I need to post."

I rolled +4. Trying to inflict Slagged on the Industrial Drone.
