this is a thread to brainstorm and share the little hints we all have to making our computer passwords safe to keep hackers from stealing our valuable data.

here are some tips to get the ball rolling:

always make sure your password is pretty long, like at least eight letters
put some numbers and upper case(big) letters in there
advanced tip: put some swears in the password; the hacker will be too embarassed to type it out

Use between 6 and 12 chars. More than 12 is not safe.
Do not use "password". instead use "password1"

Make the password completely incomprehensible, so that you need to use the password reset function every time you access the webpage.

good except if i find out one of your passwords i can use it to figure out all the rest

memorize your own phonetic alphabet, use it to spell out the first three letters of the website or service and add a punctuation + number at the end e.g. SOMethingawful -> SardineOctagonMeatball!1
