Kind of surprised that public transportation hasn't caught on in America since the death of the American automobile industry (which previously was burying public transportation) but I guess the US is just fundamentally broken.

The automobile industry bought up lots of railways and destroyed them so people would buy more cars, then went and committed suicide so the USA is a weird place where you're not leaving home unless you have a car and it better not be lovely because there is a hell of a lot of empty countryside you have to drive through to get to any city ever

The USA is the best country ever though

I found learning to drive very difficult because driving schools were poo poo in my home state, and my parents made for bad driving teachers, as my mother freaked out, and my dad doesn't communicate well with people, but well, I eventually passed the test after trying and trying and trying again and I love to drive now.

But I'm studying abroad in hong Kong now and I love public transport.

I just changed my oil this morning and it took me 45 minutes including driving to the auto parts store and back, and I probably spend maybe $300 a year maintaining my car which appreciates over $1000 in value annually. Don't need to pass inspections anymore and tabs are a tax writeoff. Lol enjoy being a dumb poo poo babby who can't leave the dumb poo poo city they were born in.

Earlier today I watched out the window a 40ish year old woman being taught by (I would suppose) her 60-70ish year old father how to get a car into gear on an incline. After stalling who knows how many times over the course of half an hour she left the car in tears. It was pretty funny.

Seriously, how can anybody not know how to drive stick? Especially in Europe?

I'm well past 20 and have no idea how cars work, but then I do live in London where the public transport is top-notch so it's not needed at all for independence here. Constant trains/buses all day and into the night. Missed out on learning when I was younger due to circumstances and now I can't drive due to current meds I'm on. I may never learn, it's rather depressing. My girlfriend drives at least

Living out in the suburbs like a lot of places in the US though it must be awful not having a license, no other way of going anywhere

Yeah, right after they build their own roads, enforce their own road rules, subsidize their own oil industry, establish massive international trade and industrial infrastructure and launch their own wars against countries with oil deposits. But hey, at least they aren't relying on the man.
