The animated Transformers movie is not the worst way to go. It's actually fun, and Unicron is cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzNsOGt3bHk Also he was working alongside Nimoy, also RIP.

I'm going to pull an obscure one and say Yusaka Matsuda, the guy who played the villain Sato in Black Rain. It's a great role in an otherwise lovely movie. The guy was trying to break in to Hollywood after having a long career in Japan, bonded with Andy Garcia while filming, and apparently died from bladder cancer following it's completion.

He's too old now but I'm still a fan of that really wanky idea where his Bond is a villain killing off all the other former Bonds forcing Craig-Bond to stop him. I know, I know "BUT SKYFALL SAID" garbage. I preferred the idea of Bond as a code name and wanted to see Craig team up with Dalton and Brosnan to fight Connery.

I lost interest in Bond around the time of Pierce Brosnan and (coincidentally) stopped being a child but I'd watch the hell out of that. I've heard more positive things about the Daniel Craig ones but I'm just so over popcorn empty action flicks. It's why I haven't seen a new Tom Cruise movie in like a decade.

Shadow posted:I lost interest in Bond around the time of Pierce Brosnan and (coincidentally) stopped being a child but I'd watch the hell out of that. The visuals in Skyfall are literally so good you'll completely fail to notice that the plot is a weaker version of the Dark Knight that ends with Bond playing Home Alone until you're done watching it. Casino Royale is legitimately the best Bond movie I've ever seen and I don't care who knows it. Bond actually has an honest-to-god arc and it doesn't suck, while also explaining why he becomes the global champ of the pump-and-dump. Quantum of Solace is garbage. Tom Cruise movies of the last 10 years have literally been nothing but Tom Cruise doing everything he can to convince the audience he's still as great as he was when he was young-- look at how fast I can still run, look at these insane stunts I'm willing to do, look at how much energy I still have, look at what great shape I'm in, look at how I can keep up with all the young guys! Some of his movies work, even if they are all as empty as the hole in his soul he's clearly trying to fill.

Maybe I'll check out Skyfall and Casino Royale. Totally agree on Cruise. I think the only movies I've seen of his since like 2004 have been Collateral (liked this one a lot because he was...you know...acting), Jack whatever the gently caress (ehhhh), and um. War of Worlds and it was good but any gently caress head in his role would have worked for that movie.

We used to watch an occasional television drama, a bunch of empty sitcoms, and not much else. Some movies were thinkers, some were talkers, and some were action. Now we have an endless supply of shows like Game of Thrones, Vikings, etc. which gives us compelling storylines, character development, AND some great action. THE ERA OF THE SILVER SCREEN IS OVER. BRING FORTH THE DAWN OF WEBFLIX! also you're welcome!

snackcakes posted:Transformers is a great movie. There are zero things that are bad about it. no, the transformers movie was terrible. it's a bunch of quick cuts with absolutely no continuity. it's saving grace is nostalgia, it was my favorite movie when I was, like, ages 8-10 but it does not hold up. you can get the same feel by watching dvds of the transformers cartoon, it's just stuff, real fast cuts between stuff but no actual context tying them together, same with the 1988 presidential debates. The movie too, it's a bunch of culty stuff, like the actor list or the awesomeness of the soundtrack, that should lend it some credibility, but at the end of the day, it's just a bunch of one liners and quick cuts between things, no real continuous plot or structure or value beyond nostalgia or anything. though the vince decola soundtrack and the line "your bargaining posture is highly dubious" do still make it worth rewatching.
