So I got MKX on the Black Friday sale and without going into detail the story mode starts off pretty hectic with poo poo flying around and all sorts of crap going on. Can't wait for this to carry on so I can make some sense of what's happening. I know it still won't make sense.

Can't wait for this to carry on so I can make some sense of what's happening. MKX starts a year or two after MK9, as a new villain revealed at the end of this game launches his attack. Beyond that, the reason why some characters are evil and corrupted is answered by the title of this thread: Raiden makes mistakes, and there's a serious case of "Oh dear how do we wrap up this subplot so late in development..." late in the game.

Can't wait for this to carry on so I can make some sense of what's happening. It actually makes pretty near perfect sense, although one of the big weaknesses of MKX is that it presumes deep familiarity with MK9 and the series's plot as a whole. For example, Fujin shows up in the first chapter of MKX's story mode and is never really identified. You're just supposed to mark out at next-gen high-definition Fujin, because obviously you're familiar with a character who was only a major player in a single game released 18 god drat years ago. Plot-wise, though, the game has no serious problems. It doesn't play ball with the tie-in comic in a couple of minor ways and it's very much a hyperkinetic, bloody comic book of a story, but in terms of consistency and narrative flow, it's successful.

I find myself still wondering what game it was that those nameless Outworld mooks were playing in the sewers. 5 d8s. Some kind of dice poker? Anyway, Smoke's is the first story mode that's actually felt different to me. I mean, I suppose everybody's got their own attack speeds and threat rectangles and whatnot, but all that variation felt like it boiled down to what color energy blast they shot. Smoke's projectile counter seems like his own unique wrinkle, and his dual fight against characters with what feel like slower projectiles seems designed to take advantage of that. And then Sektor's feel a lot faster, making him more of a threat as the final boss. Of course, you're probably going to say that everyone's projectiles move at the same speed and I'll feel a right muggins, but even so.

It seems a bit off an overkill to first pop someones head and then still take the time to rip off his arms.

What happened when you do an arm rip fatality on Sheeva? Just rips the top two off?

Yep. Same with any other fatality that removes the arms, it'll only take the top two off. Even in the case of Baraka's first fatality where they're sliced from beneath.

The only true weirdo model/skeleton for xrays and fatalities that comes to mind is Alien, because it doesn't have eyes and some MKX fatalities and x-rays involve exploding or gouging out or otherwise hitting the eyes. Cassie Cage, however, visibly pulps the testicles on male victims of her x-ray. Women just get a camel-toe punch, men have their scrotum exploded into gore. Some characters do have different skulls or muscle structure when getting x-rayed, though.

Different skulls and stuff was in MK 2011, here, too, though. Mileena and Baraka both had appropriate skulls/mouths. Actually, speaking of funny heads/skulls, MKX doesn't need to do things different for Predator? His skull isn't really that human-esque either.
