Problem description: PC was off from Thursday afternoon until Saturday morning. Turned it on and used it for 20 minutes or so and got a BSOD. Turned it back on and got one within a few minutes. Left it alone, but it's also been getting them without me even using it. I wrote down two of the errors so far: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I also remember seeing another that was NTFS_DISK maybe. Chrome also crashed once with the KMODE error but the computer didn't BSOD.

Just got another one and this one says DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (nvlddmkm.sys) so I guess that means it's the video drivers.

Attempted fixes: I did everything in the top reply here for the KMODE one http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-system/windows-8-kmode-exception-not-handled/674a788f-94ef-4b31-b305-77e5fb438b53

Recent changes: GeForce drivers updated on Tuesday.

Operating system: Windows 8.1 64-bit

System specs:
i5 4670k
Asus Z87-A
G.Skill Ripjaw 8GB RAM
MSI GeForce GTX 760
Intel 120GB SSD

Location: USA

I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes, googled both but can't tell if there is a common link between them that would help the problem.

The easiest first step would be to run DDU: http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/
Then install the latest beta drivers and see if that fixes the issue.

PS how long had the computer been running stably before this and what PSU are you using?

Ok did that and I've installed the drivers from before the most recent one because the betas are from June 2014.

I got this error after running DDU and while trying to install the new drivers:

critical_structure_corruption caused by ntoskrnl.exe

System has been stable for almost 2 years and has a Seagate PSU that was recommended in the building thread here. Can't seem to find the specifics in an invoice email or anything though.

I'd run http://www.memtest.org/ overnight some time to check RAM health.

You only have one HD right?

The latest beta drivers are from June of last year? That doesn't seem right.

I have Windows and apps on an SSD and two other HDD for data and some other game installs, none of which I have been playing during these errors.

When I search nvidia's site for drivers for a 760, the newest beta drivers are from June 2014.

edit: The first two passes of Memtest haven't had any errors at this point. Any ideas after that? Reinstall Windows seems like it would be next.

I'd run the portable zip edition of CDI to check the HD health: http://crystalmark.info/download/index-e.html
Post screenshots if any are showing caution.

Yea, I checked and that seems right.

You could let it run overnight if you want. That'd be a more thorough test.

When I open CDI it says all 3 drives are Good. Is there a test it's supposed to run? There's no readme or instructions on the site.

Memtest did run overnight, no errors.

Is there a repair feature for Windows 8.1 instead of doing a reinstall if that's next?

That means the drives are okay.

Yea, you could try something like: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-repair-windows-8-1-installation/

Might as well check your CPU/GPU temps too:

I'm trying to follow these repair instructions and I can't get the setup.exe to start on my USB or image I have. Weird. I open it and it tries to think for a second and then doesn't do anything. Not sure what's up with that.

Temps are all good.

That PSU is ~2 years old right?

Are you using the latest BIOS?

Yeah I'm pretty positive that this was a new one I put in when I built this computer in July 2013. I would be able to tell you, but I can't find any invoices in my email or anything which is surprising.

I don't think I've updated the BIOS since I built it. I never really do that with any of my computers.

edit: haven't had a BSOD in a number of hours for whatever reason. I just now updated the BIOS for fun.

edit2: I've been running videos in the background as I've done a few things on it and there haven't been any BSOD. I guess something fixed itself?

It's possible it needed the BIOS update for some reason. With random BSODs I'd give it a couple weeks before being sure the computer is fine.
