Only people who bother to vote are the ones stupid enough to believe the lies.

the issue isnt that every politician is incompetent and evil. they're not and furthermore that's a 15 year old's reading of the problem, which is probably why it's so common among the average american. the issue is that the entire system of power in this country is, in short, irretrievably hosed, designed deliberately from so many directions to undermine democracy that the word is essentially meaningless. voting is a comforting ritual that occurs every few years that tells people that their opinion matters and that the system represents them when it does not, which you can tell from the fact that they get so defensive and upset if you tell them you don't vote - you are implicitly denying the validity of their ritual and making them brush up against the uncomfortable realization of how their most treasured values are lies built to manipulate them.

Basically yeah. This makes a lot of sense.

as a neo reactionary, i refuse to vote because in doing so i would be showing my support for the corrupt and decadent institution of democracy

Most goons refuse to vote because they're not allowed within 500 yards of a public school.

People have a larger view of the world than its political systems allow for. We must keep ahold of that perspective and it is not a simple task; we are constantly bombarded with the simplistic messages and worldviews conveyed by commercialism and politics. To effectively vote, one must engage with the dynamics and arguments that are being voted upon and this will necessarily narrow one's perspective. It is not that the act of voting in a vacuum is bad or destructive, in fact it just doesn't matter. But engaging in the liberal/conservative banter renders one relatively thoughtless.

people vote for the same reason they play the lottery. no one actually believes they are going to win the millions, but it feels nice to think and talk about it for a bit. the same goes for voting, your not going to fix anything or make the world better, but its fun to talk about it an fantasize about what if obama actually did all the things he says on campaign

its just good fun op, don't knock it

If you don't vote, you don't have any right to complain about the government, and I like to complain.
