Loved my zune, although one of the updates bricked it and by then you couldnt buy new ones in the store. RIP 4gb zune If microsoft had just let you transfer music to it like a removable usb stick (since all mp3 players are just glorified usb sticks and all other companies do. Thank you, Sandisk, for getting that right) and not have to use that buggy bullshit zune library software it probably would have been successful.

Still sporting my Zune, never liked the ipod or anything itunes. Zune just covered all of the bases as a music to your ears machine and it's sad it got ignored by the tech-sheep. +Better store +Superior music discovery +Better, compact display +Easier and more intuitive interface +gently caress iTunes

ITunes does suck rear end. Media Monkey is the objectively superior library manager. The Zune is still obsolete as gently caress, now, though. Back in the day it was a suitable alternative to the iPod, but it was still outclassed in the size department. They should've just given it just enough internal storage for the os, and an sd card slot or two. So basically, SanDisk supremacy.

why are media managers even a thing? plug in mp3 player, have PC show it as a flash drive (no need for drivers and works on all OSes) and drag your files to it (and maybe even that PDF you've been meaning to print at work). Done. why does no one make a loving mp3 player or phone like this any more.

You don't have to rename or organize a loving thing on a modern music player. Most people aren't sporting Nomad II's anymore. I just use my android phone and drag/drop an album or whatever when i get it. The loving thing does the organizing and pulls any missing metadata on its own. Works for me. Melmac posted:why are media managers even a thing? Because syncing is actually easier and faster. Any time I edit/add any files in MediaMonkey, it'll move them to their own folders and rename them based on their tags. After that's done, I just have to push the 'sync now' button on my phone, and it automatically copies everything that was changed to the phone, and it does so over wifi.

Edit: It also switches out file names to try to keep you from copying data off of the iPod hd, which is hilariously pointless given how easy it is to circumvent. I still have a working Zune HD which was pretty much the ultimate MP3 player, but now with smart phones who needs a dedicated player anymore? Too bad Zune didn't catch on since it was better than iPod/iTunes in most every way. The one way it wasn't was "squirting". I wonder if the marketing wonk who came up with that is living in a cardboard box today. I'm also one of the seventeen people on Earth who uses a Windows Phone and it's funny to see how much Microsoft has gone backwards from Zune in a few areas like podcast subscriptions and management.

ZombieParts posted:The Zune software was the whole problem. Every time there was an update it hosed up your library beyond reason. Yeah, Itunes isn't good but Zune was way worse yeah basically. Like Itunes is horrible and was even worse back in the day but the Zune was even more restrictive and didnt let you manage the stuff on your device at all IIRC. You literally had to sync it up with a mirrored library on your PC. The device itself was OK but their little clicky pads werent really as useful as the ipod wheel. If the Zunes were like 50$ cheaper than comparable storage iPods they mighta been alright Melmac posted:I love when I want to add a single song to my ipod via itunes but it's on a different computer than I usually so my entire library gets wiped out, it's really cool You can tell iTunes to manage your device individually though, and the setting should stick to the device as well. The options to manage the device manually are counter intuitive because they probably dont want you doing it but at least it actually allows you to do so unlike the Zune software. Like honestly I impulse bought the Zune because I was going to pick up a replacement iPod on the way to work (I did really boring repetitive work so everyone used audiobooks to stay sane) because I figured it was Microsoft and theyd just let you interact with the device with file manager or something.
