You permanently lose about 10 IQ points if you start before you've physically matured into an adult. Some people really need those points. Otherwise, no, it doesn't really hurt you that much except for the long term side effects, which are just emasculating rather than harmful to your health (I'm talking about erectile dysfunction.)
