I'm subbing for my friends radio show the next couple weeks. The show that he does is a funk, soul, old school r&b kinda thing. I'm looking at presenting a lot of the more random or experimental recordings from those genres, or even just inspired by them. I've already found a bunch of cool stuff... Nigeria at one point had a really cool psychedelic funk scene back in the seventies (Ofo the Black Company, the Funkees). It can be spacey, strange, funny, random. I just want something interesting.

Also this is public radio at 5 pm on Sundays, so I gotta be on the cleaner side..... Sadly this means no "Strokin'" by Clarence Carter. The listening audience here can be surprisingly conservative at times, my pal got a warning just for talking about being hung over... Since I'm a temp I also don't mind pushing the limits a little bit however.

You might like this album, space themed outsider funk, sounds a bit like kraftwerk sometimes: http://www.discogs.com/Starship-Commander-Wooooo-Wooooo-Mastership/release/2859429

There's some cool funk stuff with spoken word mixed in like this album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1JzXdWoAQI which is real interesting but it's pretty political(like a lot of funk from that era) so it might not be very suitable for your audience.
