So I had about 70k in hospital bills. I decided bankruptcy was the thing for me.I didn't listen to my bankruptcy handler guy and check my credit after everything went through. Now here I am with a 40k hospital bill on my credit. The bill was part of the bankruptcy, I double checked that. It appears as if the hospital sold the debt before everything went through. So is there anything I can do?

I just saw this thing on my credit and wanted answers right now. The not knowing is killing me. But OK, lawyer it is then.

Lawyer is the best bet since us bunch of IANALs are not going to really know the best legal route for something like this.

Wait two more years and then declare bankruptcy again.

Wait for the collection company to violate your bankruptcy stay and collect large amounts in damages. Damages that make FDCPA violations seem like loose pocket change.

I'm proud of you for strategically defaulting on medical debt. Definitely call your bankruptcy attorney.

No honest reason to not strategically default on medical debt, it's unsecured and already proven that hospitals are jacking rates of care up 1000% just because they can so they can use that number as the starting point for discounts. The Hospital could discount it 50% to make you feel like you're getting a deal and you're still paying 500% of the cost of the care. Your Lawyer knows how to handle this, but if you start getting harassment over the debt you can have a lot of fun suing them.

I haven't heard anything from them. You'd think they'd be hounding me for such a large sum. I just want it to go away. It's a chapter on my life I'd like behind me. Thanks for the thoughts guys.
