Problem description: OpenElec doesn't seem to recognize the RF receiver for a Favi FE02RF-BL. A hardwired keyboard works fine. Attempted fixes: 1. Verified that the RE02RF actually functions. Tested this on OSX, and Win8.1. Remote checks out ok in those OSes. 2. Checked dmesg output at dongle insertion time --no relevant output 3. Checked usb-devices output. With hardwired keyboard: code:

I wonder if the USB ports on that little box aren't putting out a full 5v 2a like they would on a full-size computer. I looked up that keyboard (I've been thinking of getting one for my tablet), and it is reported as working fine in Linux in what I read. Maybe using a powered USB hub would be a workaround, but that's just a guess. I'm not familiar with OpenELEC, so perhaps it's stripped down enough that it simply can't run that dongle. It does say that Android is also supported, so maybe try running it off a phone and see if it works there. Really, you're working with some fairly odd hardware and something of a niche distro, so it's hard to give much specific advice.

With a wired keyboard, and a Logitech wireless receiver no fuss, no muss. Looks like power draw for those devices was around .3A. OSX reported power draw for the Favi module at .3A. I'm not great at debugging this kind of stuff so I'm wondering if its some dorked up low level compatibility issue. I ended up returning the remote and just use Kore app on Android. It's not as nice as having a full function keyboard but the send text function works well.
