There are at least a couple of threads on youtube videos, funny or otherwise. This one is more for Reviewers or "personalities" that consistently amuse, entertain, or enlighten. As I'm starting this thread, I might as well go first. Super Bunnyhop https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWqr2tH3dPshNhPjV5h1xRw (reviewer of videogames and occasional drama that comes within the field. Able to touch upon it without rolling around in it. )

If you haven't experienced the magic of Stuart Ashen, a British dude who reviews cheap snacks, knock-off toys and dollar/pound-store garbage, you haven't lived! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEr93uEq65s

The Your Movie Sucks guy seems to have pretty good taste in things, often times going into analytical detail of various shows and movies. I especially like his Take on the Walking Dead series, and talking about the Behind-the-Scenes stuff going on during it's running that have contributed to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDbi7P93Np8&index=12&list=PL83BA48D283767122

The Needle Drop is a somewhat funny, highly informative music review channel. Anthony Fantano comes off as a little douchey at first, but once you get past that there is a lot to learn in each video and I always end up re-listening to the albums afterwards and hearing new things. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTmHuavOXNg

I've always like Errant Signal, he's offers a lot more in depth analysis of games and particularly mechanics in games, why they're there and what they are trying to say with them. I think this is shown well in his Mirrors Edge video and it helped me appreciate exactly what DICE was trying to go for in that game and why its presentation and mechanics worked the way they do, as well as the wider context that created the game. I find his style of criticism, along with that of Superbunnyhop in the OP, is more in line with academic criticism rather than the checklist stuff (Good Graphics? No Glitches? Short Loading times? Good AI? Check, 87%) you get with most game publications with a simplified number rating that doesn't really tell you anything, its very nice to see games criticism become more sophisticated with this kind of thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaY4W_2NIEM (n.b., this video is pretty funny at the start since it was made four years ago and he's talking about how EA at that point in time isn't that bad, well compared to Activision at least). khwarezm has a new favorite as of 21:05 on Aug 28, 2015 |
