Fascism is about control and imposing order. The US is more like a street gang. Sure, you can murder some poor kid in a driveby/drone strike and nobody ends up getting in trouble, but its not quite the Roman empire.

Also, American military adventures lose trillions. Empires are supposed to be about making money, not driving your debt-to-GDP ratio over %100.

In this analogy the us street gang is the nypd of street gangs: highest funded, largest membership, and total impunity.

The military adventures lose trillions, to who? All the right people profit off of the military's various excursions.

And the Roman empire could only dream of the global presence we currently maintain through military bases and naval superiority.

how is this not obvious to all? America for all its fuckups is still numero uno on the list of who not to gently caress with.

Sunni Islamists hosed with America, and they are more numerous and influential than ever. America can't control its own borders, can't control its own secrets, and can barely control its own cities. Its no surprise it failed to defeat terrorists, of even occupy their poor and relatively defenseless countries. Romans weren't noted for causing their enemies to multiply, or for crying and killing themselves after getting home from losing a war.

But you have a point about the "right people" profiting off of these failed wars. If you enjoy your government handing over your tax dollars to defense contractors then I suppose this whole thing is very successful. If national debt and losing wars doesn't bother you the future looks extremely bright.

Terrorism, sunnis, Islam is literally a problem in a far away land that has no impact on the day-to-day of americans, except for the policies implemented in the pursuit of curbing terrorism. but we both know its a scapegoat. same goes for undocumented immigrants. I feel like I'm arguing with a fox news viewer but then we'd be in agreement of how dominant america is.

I dont know much about the roman empire but I can surmise that life was really good for a small company of people and rulers, at the general publics expense.

ps lol about soldiers crying and killing themselves. how is that in any way a critique of America's supremacy?

granted the state secrets thing is a blow to our facade but thats the age of technology for ya \/:)\/

The soldiers crying and killing themselves after losing wars in third world countries doesn't strike you as a critique of American military supremacy? Oh well.

The point is that America doesn't control anything. Such power as it has is purely economic, with those benefits accruing for an increasingly small percentage of the population, or vindictive, in that US military power can kill this or that individual if it feels it has a reason. This isn't the same as being in control of anything, as Romans were etc.

But that's a good thing. Just as America is far less powerful and dominant compared to historical powers, its also far less harmful. Americans murder a few hundred innocent foreign children a year. Torture of a few dozen innocent men. That's small time. That's nothing by Roman or British standards.

We just keep talking past each other. No doubt that less people die in our wars and we can't eliminate insurgents because we don't practice total war anymore. We also have less colonies than the British when they were the empire in charge, and we don't eradicate and literally enslave natives like the Spanish.

We don't need high kill counts and control over the locals. The dollar is the primary currency, western culture is exported to all corners of the globe, and our military can deploy anywhere in days without anyone stopping us.

Sorry I meant to say I hope that the police use maximum force and kill or maim a bunch of innocent people, thus paving a way for a proletarian uprising and socialist utopia

Just decide what you're trying to say. I'm saying that America is a big rich powerful country that constantly fucks up and embarrasses itself. This is endlessly charming, precisely because of the scale of wealth and power behind such colossal failures.

those are not mutually exclusive things Im saying. we can consistently gently caress up and still come out on top, we've been doing it for a while and show no signs of ceding power.

if America isn't top dog I'd love to know who you think is.
