Canucks-Flames wreck each other's home openers. That has a certain poetry to it.

Is it always comprised of "skate around in circles for a minute and then take a shot. If shot doesn't go in, other team skates around in circles for a minute and then takes a shot"? ehhhhhh still better than a shootout, though, which is the ultimate dumb way to finish a game

It's some of that followed by a shot going off the boards or something and turning into odd man rushes either way until a save or a goal. It's fun.

Wippersnapper posted:True - but why not keep 4v4 for 5 minutes, and then 3v3? to keep the games short, I guess. Higher chance of scoring in 3v3, but the NHL wants a winner every game, and no ties, so you can't go 4v4, 3v3, then SO because that just takes too long. 3v3 is the happy medium because it gives a higher chance of deciding the game via actual "hockey" in a shorter amount of time, while retaining the shootout just in case

Would imagine that on the NHLPA side of things at some point they'd complain about "too much wear/tear" on players, and on the NHL side of things broadcasts and stuff like that usually like to keep a certain run time for regular season games and such.

It's really incredible how good they look respective to the rest of the league at the beginning of every season and then they just kinda stay the same and the other good teams catch up

Ended up in the conference finals but they probably look great every year at the beginning because they don't change that much year to year core wise anyway.

I did not expect to like Martin Jones as much as I do but I really, really, really do. Hopefully he does not turn into a pumpkin.

BearDrivingTruck posted:gently caress the Dodgers, tho I mean yeah. I dunno if I ever mentioned but I live in Albuquerque and refused to go to minor games because of the dodgers for 2 years Anyway I seriously like Jones a lot. When he eventually comes down from this pace I think he'll still be big, reactive and as long as he remains positionally well he should be solid.
