Over the recent Thanksgiving weekend, I drove several hours and hundreds of miles to visit family members. During that drive, much of which was at night, I listened to music. I had my iphone plugged into the soundsystem of my car (all stock) and only stopped the music when I stopped the car to refuel, eat, or use the restroom. During that drive I found that I had a heightened awareness of the music like I'd never experienced before. It didn't matter what I listened to, I was feeling the music on a whole different level than I was used to. I realized that this wasn't due to the speakers playing the music, the bitrate it was encoded at, or even the music itself. No, this could only be because of Nightdriving. Never before was I focused so intimately on the music, and only the music.

So really what this thread is about isn't what kind of speakers or headphones you use, or even what you listen to, but what you do when you listen, preferably as a means to support more active listening as opposed to just background music.
