i'm way late to the party on this one, but the leftovers is one of the best shows this decade

forget about game of thrones and walking dead or whatever, this show is where it's at

quote:

The Leftovers takes place three years after a global event called the "Sudden Departure", the inexplicable, simultaneous disappearance of 140 million people, 2% of the world's population, on October 14. Following that event, mainstream religions declined, and a number of cults emerged, most notably the Guilty Remnant.

The story focuses primarily on the Garvey family and their acquaintances in the fictional town of Mapleton, New York. Kevin Garvey is the Chief of Police. His wife Laurie has joined the Guilty Remnant. Their son Tommy has left home for college, and their daughter Jill is acting out. The second season moves the main characters to the fictional town of Jarden, Texas.

the show is planned for 3 seasons with the first and second already completed and the third set to premiere in 2016

it's a very :smith: type of show with an extremely depressing plot and a lot of heartwrenching moments, but it is incredibly well-directed, artfully shot and has some of the best musical direction i've ever heard

10/10 highly recommend

some video, potential spoilers:

yeah except it's only going to be three seasons long so it hopefully won't get a chance to get all autistic and stupid with the plot

I think it's overrated and the first season is at least half bad but the second season was enjoyable to watch.

it actually sucks badly.

the writers have no intention of ever delving into the backbone of the show, the sudden disappearance event. just another device for lindelof to write stupid poo poo

of a full load.

On the contrary, I like the fact that they aren't planning on going into why 2% of the earths population suddenly vanished, with no rhyme or reason. It hosed the world up, and the show (hopefully) won't end with everyone suddenly coming back to a happy ending.

Not as many as most other HBO shows, but yes, there are tits.

Honestly losing 140 million people would be a gift not a tragedy. Overpopulation is already a problem.
