firstly, to clear up some confusion from earlier in the thread, calzònes are not a pie. given that they are a "filling wrapped by a bread-like base layer", it's probably more useful to place it with the so called "bread wrap", along with cornish pasty, midwest pasty, burrito, or a dough-based pirogi (i.e "großtorte"). it's a more elegant taxonomy. keep in mind the purpose of such classifications are to help us better understand what we eat every day. I have to admit a certain sense of relief in that this thread has managed to remain free of the tired insistence on that ridiculous sweet/savory dichotomy seemingly endemic to the conversation (especially when held between parties valuing more the struggle with some diametrically opposed autist trapped in mirror-image exurban condo-complex hellscape thousands of miles across the land, than UN.DER.STAN.DING the relationship between what we eat and how live... if the pizza is circular, it's a pie 100%. square pizza, not a pie. are brownies a pie? Think before you speak. Pies do not have corners. fun fact you may be surprised to learn: that its actually more closely related to a pecan pie or "southern delight" than, say, a shepards pie. but yes, in general its a pie.

All pizza are sandwiches but not all sandwiches are pizzas. As a reminder everything is a sandwich.

It's more like an eggless quiche, which itself is an egg pie. So yes it's a pie.
