I hope the Nielson ratings system dies at some point, because CBS cancelling stuff like Limitless and POI (shows that only became good after they broke free of cop monster of the week molds CBS forced upon them) is just absurd. Does CBS really believe that the average age of people watching a show like Supergirl really is 55? Get real. Someone needs to find a better way of tracking content views, because I'm sick of my favorite shows getting canned :(

I mean it could be that Nielson is poo poo AND no one is watching your favorite shows

Don't worry, with his extensive lack of medical training he's more than willing to skip any kind of testing and go right into human trials for medical devices. He's disrupting the healthcare industry by ignoring things like the FDA and basic rights of patients!

Which is why in episode 2 the FDA shows up and takes all his money.

God, everything just looks so completely terrible. I'm kind of confused as what the point of that tech doctor show is supposed to be. The tech they were using was so advanced it might as well be magic which seems like a boring premise for a medical show.

The serious answer is that it's based on the idea of "disruption" which is the buzzword of 2015, the idea that the tech industry will break the traditional systems by applying their techniques to them. Every tech start up is now based on "disrupting" whatever old industry they're tangentially related to (note that very few of them are actually disruptive, but everyone wants that sweet Uber investor money). Pure Genius takes that concept and tries to fit it into the standard network doctor show mold. Similarly, Fox's APB applies it to the standard network police drama mold.

So basically it's taking a current trend and trying to make it work with one of the three things that networks typically develope shows around (that would be doctors, police, and lawyers, FWIW).

First I heard that Joel McHale and Stephen Fry were in a new show. gently caress yes!

Then I heard that it was on CBS. Okay, they're funny, the show should still be funny.

Then I heard it was a muticam and my heart sank a little.

Then I saw the trailer.

The set reminds me of Newsradio. Just how they have that conference table, and the general office setup with the raised area for no apparent reason. I mean, a man can dream that Newsradio lives on in some way.

Given that trailers tend to suck, I don't know. I saw a little life in there, and some of the jokes did land. Also, I really like multicamera sitcoms when they're well done, so I could just be jonesing for a fix. It's either this or Last Man Standing, and I have dignity.

And don't even mention the show that shall not be named that is about nerds.

I'm in your boat and I have bad news. At a basic level I can't accept that MacGyver would've raised such a snotty and arrogant brat of a kid. (Yes he really is supposed to be the original MacGyver's son instead of being an entire reboot, which would've at least made a little more sense - at least he keeps referring to his father in the trailer.) The atmosphere and approach is just wrong. I realize you can't do a show like that in the 2010s because thirty years have passed, but the basic premise of an extremely resourceful man with encyclopedic knowledge fighting the good fight is still workable.

If a character like MacGyver or Sherlock Holmes either doesn't have deep flaws or an endearing personality, the viewer is going to hate that loving know-it-all. An insufferable kid rubbing his smarts in your face all the time is not the point of MacGyver.

As far as I can tell Richard Dean Anderson has not agreed to be in this MacGyver either.

Sure a Macguyver reboot, why not. Seems laser targeted at that usual super old CBS audience. Sad to hear Limitless got canceled, I didn't catch it all the time but I liked it when I saw it. Training Day sounds dope as hell, Bill Paxton should be great in the Denzel role. That's actually a show I want to only go one season with a concrete well thought out ending, one season seems like the perfect time to tell a rad story with that premise. Can only play "Turn in this guy or not, almost get caught spying" type stories for so long. Maybe they do a good enough job to tell a good story over multiple seasons though, I mean I don't see how Training Day with Bill Paxton doesn't get ratings.

Hope Supergirl does well at CW, and still manages to look decent effects wise.

The YouTube Superstars season murdered it, succeeding where the family season did not.

More seriously, as a reality show my guess is they're just going to drop it in when they have a hole in the schedule to be filled.
