Oh, Hey, I didn't see you there. I was just over here with this here Ocarina of Time. Oh, you've heard of it? Ah, yes, Good game that Ocarina of Time (OoT). Care to see me play some of it? Okay!

That sure is a title aint it? Look at that baby...

What is Ocarina of Time?

So. Ocarina of Time. OoT for short. OoT came out back in the far and away past of 1998. That was a long time ago, I know. Heck, some of you may not have even been alive back then. I was. It was... an okay time? I don't remember much about it. Must have been boring. You know what this game is. Everybody knows what this game is.

Anyway.

So This game comes out and kicks rear end and takes names. Not only did it basically set the standard for 3rd person action games for years to come, it translated a video game series that was known for a top down perspective (three out of four games released thus far) into a nice third person action adventure game. Ain't that snazzy? Needless to say, this game was a big deal in it's time, and many still love it to this day. That's Great.

Now, OoT isn't a perfect game, far from it. The game is simple in nature for the most part, and does have some issues with pacing here and there... and it's glitchy as all get out. That isn't going to be what I'm focusing on during this playthrough.

LP Structure

No, I'm going to be boring and do a any% casual playthrough of the game. Why? It's my first LP that's why and I thought I'd get my feet wet with the game that taught me about story in video games ( as shallow as it is). I'm not looking to get all of the Gold Skull Tokens, upgrades or Heart Containers. I'm just going to play through the game.

There will be odd voices and me most likely reading or reacting to what people are saying. I may throw out random bits of trivia from my time in the Zelda fandom back in the day, a fandom I am very out of touch from now adays.

I intend to post once a week, if recording times allow it.

Spoilers!

Spoilers?... I don't care too much about spoilers. I'm sure everyone and their little brother has if not played OoT then heard most of what the game has to offer. heck, one of the biggest spoilers in the game is shown in the second Super Smash Bros' game and it has continued to be spoiled in each game sense then. Don't stress over it, because I won't be.

Constructive criticism is welcome and I appreciate it. At the moment I am not looking to have anyone co-host the LP with me, since this is my first rodeo, but after a bit I may look into it. Feel free to send me a message on twitter ( MFDragonzord ) and we can try to hash something out though.

Part One: Opening Area

Everything has to start somewhere doesn't it? This is the start of the game, and there really isn't too much going on yet. Basically, this is the start leading up to the first dungeon, which I will cover in the next part. I'm going to try and split these apart into chunks that make sense. Parts between dungeons will be separate from dungeons, and so on. I will try to keep some of the bigger things as their own parts.

As for my commentary? On listening to it afterwards, i really need to amp up the energy. maybe read less. Maybe read more? I don't know. What do you guys think?

Part Two: The Great Deku Tree: Part 1

Here is part 2! Welp, I didnt get my goal of finishing the Deku tree in one run, but I did get about half way done, so there is that. I really started getting into the game's logic and how it teaches you in this episode, hope people enjoy it!

The Deku Tree dungeon really does a good job about teaching you the mechanics. It's especially needed since this is the first 3D Zelda game. Things were so new, and the design of the starting area really helps you move into this new world of adventure. My favourite part of the deku tree is that it utilizes the fact that the game has a new dimension by giving you a dungeon that is entirely vertical. That huge jump is so satisfying the first time you do it. Especially if you were unsure of how to progress before, or missed the first short jump.

Part Three: The Great Deku Tree: Finished

A much quicker episode this time as there really wasn't much more to do in the Deku Tree. It really is a nice area that teaches you the basics of the game but at a pace that even new players to Zelda can understand. You are slowly introduced to enemies that first require you to run into to be damaged, ones that actively attack but stay in the same position, and finally enemies that follow you around but give clear indication of when they will attack and run away after receiving damage. It's a nice, slow trickle that eases players into 3D combat. I love it.

I agree. The Dungeon , introduces the idea of verticalality that was seen in A Link to the Past, but ina true 3D space. I do like that the webbing gives an indication that it is effected by your jump and weight, but that you have to jump from a higher point.

It is certainly a question of why we had to break that curse, and the true nature of the monsters. I'm sure it's meant to test Link's courage, but what would have happened if he had failed? And then there is the mater of all the monsters. Later we see the forest taken over by Deku Scubs and Deku Babas, and the Kokiri hide out in their houses. But other than that we never really see anyone interact with any monsters, aside from one moment I can think of. Maybe they are just manifestations of darkness? I don't know.
