We can keep pretending it is going to change but it never does. You know who doesn't watch wrestling in big numbers? I just find it hard to believe those studies or that they can't change when it seems like every outlet for nerd news has a wrestling podcast or lets play or article or what have you lately. It seems to be spreading like wildfire among those communities and their young/valuable demographics. If its not finding a voice there, why would more new ones keep appearing, and not just among hobbiests like the OSW guys but full time Youtubers and Entertainment Sites who's livelihood depends on the content being clicked and watched, and why do they stick around instead of fading after one or two pilots?

This pretty much. I was always that girl in my friend group who liked wrestling but in the past couple years all my nerd friends have started asking me questions about it and stuff because a lot of the nerdy tastemakers talk about it constantly. Also it's important to note that basically all the demographic studies for pro wrestling are either intensely biased and heavily manipulated (the ones the WWE releases) or done in ways that are not ideal (the one that only measured people over the age of 18, the ones based off of Nielsen ratings), I think if you were to do a household study with a decent sample size and had it done by an outside company that isn't involved in the industry we would see some very interesting stats.

Nerdy internet smarks are not wwes primary audience, uneducated poor people and children are which is why Roman reigns gets booed out of every building he's in but sells a ton of merch.

At the end of the day traffic to these kinds of sites is a small percentage of wrestling's overall audience. Furthermore nerds are no longer smart math people they are fans of the most popular movie of all time. Literally everything encompasses "nerd culture." No matter how many of these sites spring up, WWE's median age keeps increasing and the demos never seem to change. Well, the percentage of women watching has increased, mostly because men have stopped watching in larger numbers than women. The female audience never really went up, it is just bleeding away slower.

Also, it can't be stressed enough that the poor and uneducated casual audience that makes up the majority are much better in all respects than the nerds. Smarter too.

Lucha Underground is hilarious and stupid and great, but it draws... about 200k eyeballs per episode. Overestimating the Internet audience is what lead Universal to think that a Scott Pilgrim movie would draw big box office numbers, of which it did not. There's also a component where the barrier to entry for wrestling promotions to gain viewers has been lowered exponentially in the recent years, so much so that those hardcore wrestling fanatics have the ability (and seem to be willing) to spread their money and time across multiple promotions now, more than ever. They're vocal and willing to spend, but they make up a small percentage of the WWE audience.

Seems to me that most of the kids that watch wrestling are the children of wrestling fans. One of my favorite parts about the last house show I went to was a guy telling his quiet son he wouldn't get in trouble for yelling like he does at home at the wrestlers on tv. After that it was all booing heels and cheering faces.

So they're doing a Fantasy Draft now and letting people share it: http://fantasy-draft.wwe.com/?sf30477905=1#/ Here's mine. Note that I put everyone I like on Smackdown for a super awesome roster, and put people I'm either bored with or don't care about on Raw so I could skip it every week: http://fantasy-draft.wwe.com/?sf30477905=1#/shared/287e22b4dd02cd1bac658bcd58286f33

I put both the part-timers and Ryback on Raw so that the active wrestlers are even between brands.

found a neat way to do this draft: act like you want both shows to be as best as they can be, pretending viewers will only watch one or the other. To eliminate bias, i separated the rosters (women's division excluded, because with raw being 3 hours its the best brand to accommodate that division regardless so they default there) into two lists, and made a third party pick one. http://fantasy-draft.wwe.com/?sf30477905=1#/shared/7618f73516eef04d097d8f4f612018bb i feel this is decently balances so both shows are okay, plus they'll be getting some NXT support.

This fantasy draft is set up weird. Why does each guy come up one at a time and I have to assign them instead of showing me the whole pool and letting me pick one at a time? I wanted to do a draft with my friend each of us GMing one show while I kill time a work, and this set up makes it awkward as heck. :/
