I guess perhaps the other factor is that the world very clearly does exist. Like I can argue why the Earth is here but that doesn't change the fact that it very definitely is here. So whatever I think about why it's here I must accept that it is. Whereas God is something you'd have to convince me of, I don't see one offhand, and I think if you wanted to convince me one existed I'd need to know why it should exist, and how it came to, in order to justify believing in this hypothesis.

I guess maybe if I started from the presumption that God existed I would perhaps find it easier?

I don't expect that you can answer why and how. Maybe the questions don't have an answer. I definitely don't think I could convince anyone. Thankfully there doesn't have to be a functional difference between believing and not believing.
