I think 'weiner' looks more natural when talking about weiners and not things from Vienna even tho it breaks the etymological continuity so I don't consider it a misspelling. It bothers me that it shows up as red text. Both spellings are equally popular here according to forum search.

I prefer "donger" but if I have to choose, weiner looks more natural. Unfortunately my tablet only likes the wiener spelling.

Once i learned german I couldn't read weiner without hearing it in my head as "viner" so I spell it wiener
