Finally caught up on the card. Great fights overall, and while Wonderboy looked fast as hell, I was underwhelmed by the fight.

Nobody's going to figure out Thompson's style if they're not going to engage. ...can't beat someone like Wonderboy if you're afraid to take risks.

Nor can you beat them just by wading in and swinging. I can't say if Rory's tentativeness once inside punching range was exacerbated by his fight with Lawler, but just popping in with that cross guard and throwing hooks from there would have only gotten him more tired out as Thompson peeled off angle.

Engaging doesn't automatically put Thompson out of ease or figure out his tactics. Pressure and good head movement and more frequent heavy damage with the hands might be enough, especially over the course of 5 rounds. In a hypothetical fight with Lawler, Thompson is going to have to work even harder to keep his head out of danger. It's doable since Robbie doesn't use a ton of different strikes, even if he's typically good at herding people into them.

Distance resetting maneuvers like finishing combos with a lead high kick on the guard won't be as good of an option for Thompson, because Lawler is a southpaw and could choose to blast through that. But a lot of rear kick stuff becomes more viable. It's hard to tell how well Robbie will manage Wonderboy's offense.

No poo poo. There's a place inbetween just standing there and throwing wild strikes while charging strait forward with your chin in the air.

Rory's shown himself capable of intelligent pressure in the Woodley fight. Of course Woodley just shuts down if you throw enough volume at him, but that talk Firas gave Rory in the corner about not giving Thompson anything to counter was bad advice (Thompson's content just to out point people who don't walk him down, and given his background he's probably better at doing that then anyone else in MMA) unless Rory really didn't want to get hurt, which who knows, with the way his nose opened up and the damage he's taken maybe he's just too fragile now.

All I'm saying is at some point you just have to go for it and risk getting really badly hurt if you want to win. Look at Joe Soto further down the card, chinny guy who finally broke his losing streak by taking some big risks.

It's no longer a blue world, Max. Where could we go?
