Thanks everybody, especially my homeboys Cocks Cable and Podima, for being cool about me having to drop out.

It was a cool game, all around.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Sleeper,
I will fear no Airlock: for thou art with me; thy Better Machines and thy Soft Reveals they comfort me.

Thou preparest a skillcheck before me in the presence of mine enemies:
thou fillest my hand with TRE; my cup runneth over.

Surely Supercrises and Heavy Activations shall follow me all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of Caprica for ever.

For posterity, here's the other half of "How Toshimo Tried to Murder a Whole Houseful of Goons and Wound Up Homeless Instead":

Day 2 Follow-up:

Managed to conscript some friends to climb across the debris with me and recover some more stuff.

Saved:
 • All board games
 • All the ~anime~
 • Most of the clothes

RIP:
 • PC
 • PS3
 • Bed
 • Grill/Canopy/Coolers/Chairs/Cornhole (everything outside)

The landlord had me cut power to the place, so the fridge/freezer are gonna die, too.

Talked to my boss tonight and he's going to lobby for me to get full-time telework until things settle.  Staying with my folks in Dundalk right now (not sure this is a better situation than a flooded apartment with no power).  Tomorrow, I start the process of dealing with the insurance claims for the house and car.   My landlord said they'd let me know when Howard County made a determination on whether the building was ruled safe.  I haven't really gotten far beyond that.

Just as a wrap-up, here's the PoV of the rest of the group.  Apparently, they got to do much cooler stuff than drown and get tetanus.

We were playing Ultimate One-night Werewolf inside. Our phones started warning us about 20 minutes before we had to leave, we kind of checked outside every 5 minutes or so to make sure the river wasn't overflowing. Toshimo checked out back and said "we have a problem, you all need to leave right now", so we exited out the back door with mud water pouring in through it (http://i.imgur.com/3I4dY1J.jpg).

The steps leading up to the street (http://i.imgur.com/lDUWK72.jpg) had a torrent of water coming down them so we had to pull ourselves up the railing. Once at the top, I and the friend I brought made for my car. I reached the car but my friend fell in a newly formed mudhole (http://i.imgur.com/eJYn7eW.jpg). It wasn't that deep at the time, so I was able to get her out easily considering.

We got in my car, but it was kind of obvious we weren't going anywhere as someone else in front of us had started trying to drive away and was stuck in the middle of the road. Toshimo came up to our door and told us we couldn't stay there, so we got out and 3 of us tried making for the house a little higher up the street, with Toshimo going back for the rest of the group.

The water running against the house prevented us from passing it, but the had a porch sheltered from the rain and road water. I saw the other group of goons coming up the street and it seemed much stabler than where I was (in the street, behind a car with 2 strong streams on either side). My friend stayed on the porch and I tried to gingerly cross, getting hit in the legs with tree logs and debris. Not far from the middle of the road, the road river took me down and pinned me against 2 cars (the one that was trying to leave earlier with someone in it) and the debris collecting between them. I shouted for help on the way down, and I wasn't able to stand once I was pinned, but Macnult came and pulled me up, nearly getting trapped himself. He hopped up on the car hood and I soon made it up too. We looked out to try to plan a move, and I saw the other group of goons made it to the other side of the road which was next to a forested hill (the tree area in the background: http://i.imgur.com/0gkremB.jpg).We hopped off the hood and made it over to them and I suggested we climb the mud hill instead of staying in the street. At this point, Toshimo had been pulled away by the current and we had 2 others stuck on the porch of a house that didn't seem entirely stable.

We eventually get up the hill and are greeted by New Zion Center of Hope church. We check the doors, but they're all locked. We gather under an awning to wait / plan. We decide to continue down the church path and find a house next to the church. No one is home, but there's a cat on the porch and the automatic lights come on. We wait and take turns texting people with Macnult's phone. The power goes out for about 8 minutes.

Once the power is back we see that the rain is starting to let up. We journey down the road toward Main St. and the houses on our side of the road seem stable and we see some people outside on their porch along with a stranded couple. We meet them and ask if they have medical supplies. They bring out a table, bandages, rubbing alcohol, and allow us to go inside to get some folding chairs so we can sit as we watch the Main St. river. The alcohol stings terribly on my cuts.

There are some people in the lower part of the river trying to make their way to us and one gets pulled down. We rush over to help, but his group has him out by the time we all get there.

Back at the stable house, we take turns using a landline to call people. The water line starts to come down and we can see the median strip of the road. We thank our hosts, put their folding chairs back and start walking up the street.

We meet Toshimo in the street and he tells us the other group is safe. We see Shadowlz's bike turned over on the side of the road.

Making it to the unstable looking house my friend stayed at, their concrete walkway to the porch was flipped at an incline between and sinkhole and the porch (used to be flat). I made it onto the porch and reunited with my friend who was inside with a really mellow, Jay-looking guy smoking a cigarette. He offers a seat and peroxide. I clean up, thank everyone there, and we go to my car to see how it did.

The inside of my car is dry and it starts up just fine. It doesn't appear anything hit it either, likely thanks to the car that tried to leave earlier blocking the debris on that side of the road. Toshimo checks on us / the car and says we should leave as there's another storm coming. We ask if anyone needs a ride and, given the all clear, slowly drive away. As we leave there are service vehicles stopped at seemingly random spots of the street. Once we get to Rogers Ave, I'm able to shift into second and drive normally, albeit shakily, back home.

I still have some very vivid flashbacks, especially when trying to sleep, but I'm not shaking anymore!

My "favorite" moments: washing Toshimo wash away, watching Shadowls wash away, getting slammed in the shin by a massive log, going underwater and sliding some distance, taking a mouthful of flood, and climbing the mud hill one tree at a time until we got to the cemetery and abandoned church (straight out of the Walking Dead). Also realizing that with the exception of Toshimo, we'd managed to get separated into a group with forums accounts and a group of forum-friends.

I think I managed to somehow come out of it only getting like 3 people's names and 1-2 forum names. :/

My leg still hurts like gently caress and I don't know what possessed me to drag my rear end into the office today when I couldn't even get jeans on without screaming pain. I may also have some sort of allergic reaction going on from the poo poo water. D:

e: and also - insurance says my car is probably not totaled, but they're having it towed to a collision center anyhow.

I was standing about 3 feet away from Toshimo when he fell over, I turned around and told him to grab my hand, but he went underwater and vanished in an instant. When we heard reports people had drowned we were worried until someone was able to contact him directly. I'm honestly shocked he didn't suffer worse injuries.

I refused to let the Drowned God take me. What is dead may never die.

I'm currently still bouncing around looking for a new place, but otherwise, in pretty good shape (my legs are healing and the car's at the dealer getting fixed).

I'll definitely hop in another game once I get situated somewhere, though.

I am seriously going to reread this later tonight and figure out how the frak humanity pulled through on that one because I just have no idea.

My sincere apologies - once again - to everyone for the multiple mistakes this time. Work got insane right after I started this game (I've spent 2-3 days a week at a different office 1.5 hours away) and it definitely caused the quality to suffer. That being said, I think most of the mistakes were largely human-negative (burying some softball crises).

For what it's worth, that last jump's destinations were Binary Planet and Derelict Basestar (both 3-distance destinations) so even knowing that Some Numbers picked Binary Star I'm not sure it made that much of a difference in how things played out. :shobon:

For what it's worth I think blowing up both those Cents was obviously clutch, if not for that you guys had like one more shot at them before you were just dead.

There was also that point just after sleeper where we suddenly gained a metric fuckton of resources. I'm not honestly sure how we did that beyond a cosmic alignment of cards and a surprise OPG.

Floods are always loving terrifying, I've seen a couple happen in ruralish English villages where the rivers can have fairly low beds (no-one ever thought the weather would worsen significantly, how about that) and they're always surreal and dangerous in equal measure. Good job on not dying.

Hey ICR thanks for playing! I hope you had a good time.

Also big thanks to both Cylons for sticking through to the end even when the tables rather decisively turned on you. Always appreciated!

Humanity pulled through due to some really good luck and me having a very good Quorum hand for them when I turned it over. I was hoping for a Crit Sit so I could use Resignation and then reveal (I even popped whatever Politics card it was to dig for a Pardon for myself), but no luck. I'd just had enough so i popped the Cylon parachute and that was probably not a good decision. Two games in a row here I've been pre-Sleeper Cylon President, it's a little tiring. I was doing a better job of playing it safe and playing relatively pro-human (hence the Mission Specialist and some other odds and ends) but both fits and I messed up on the same check. We both contributed 1 card to a check that came up 4 TRE negative, it was essentially a soft reveal for both of us, and I'm not sure how the card counting sharks around here missed it. (Assuming we were both Cylon pre-sleeper, which seems about right with how things were going.)

No worries on the mistakes. It was a fun game, even if we were all a bit spacey and slow. My apologies for nearly running out the timer a couple times.

And yeah, you're right, the destinations probably didn't matter for this game. I was just bringing it up as some feedback for future games. Definitely not upset about it.

Of course! Quitting would just be bad sport, I'm in for the game no matter how it goes. (And yeah, once the centurions were dead the humans had basically won. Once I turned over two bad Food crises, they had definitely won.) But it was honestly a good game, Team Human won with some really good teamwork and it was fun to follow. Plenty of fun, thank you for running it Podima.

Another problem I think Team Cylon had was fits flipping too early. At the time I don't think he was under any hard suspicion, and in games like this, having the "town" faction be unable to trust each other is way better than sending someone to the brig. I doubt half of the XOs would've been played if we didn't know who the Cylons were.

Edit: phone posting is hard
