Fun Shoe
Geringen Farm Battle
Round 2

Initiative:
16 Xiulan
15 Hasaba
11 Olga
9 Squad E - War-Priest, 2 Shield Sisters
8 Squad A - Knight, 4 Veterans (Laslock)
7 Paz <<<We are here now
6 Squad D - Sergeant, 4 Soldiers (Flintlock)
5 Squad C - Sergeant, 4 Soldiers (Flintlock)
4 Squad B - Sergeant, 4 Soldiers (Melee)

Xiulan follows up her initial strike with a showy elbow drop, ripping the unfortunate sergeant's head off and brandishing it at any enemies that care to pay attention. Whether the intent was to intimidate the enemy, enrage them, or just ordinary theatrics, it's a remarkable feat in itself.

Hasaba doesn't care at all for showboating, instead focusing all his anger and hate into a blast of energy. The 'lucky' soldier whose armour stopped the arrow is treated with a full barrage of magic missiles that strike his head and body, wreathing him in unnatural flames and cooking his internal organs. Against all odds he remains alive, albeit with shocking injuries. He'd likely be screaming in agony, but he can barely breathe and can safely be considered out of the fight.

Olga welcomes the spray of blood in her eyes and fights on mostly through enthusiasm, still managing to catch her next target before he can scramble out of the way. She catches him on the right leg and then the right arm, the second strike cleanly severing the arm just perfectly. His now-free hand twitches as it falls, and the flintlock goes off with a mighty bang. By all the strange chance in the universe the bullet sails directly for Hasaba, glancing off his left leg and leaving a massive bruise for sure.

As the last of the gunner squad is rendered dead or unable to fight, the presumed commander of the situation rounds the corner with the four laslock-toting veterans. They see their soldiers being dismembered by a group of lunatics, one of which is a witch holding a severed, burning head in her own flaming hand, and another which seems to be some sort of unearthly daemonic horror. Spooky. The Knight decides to advance towards the rear with all haste, one of his Veterans stares in horror, and two others collapse on the spot. The last one maintains control of his wits and shouts "WIIIIIITCH!", just in case.

Xiulan Coup De Graces the Sergeant, doing 16 damage, putting him at -12, absolutely killing him in an impressive manner. The theatrics make all loyalists witnessing it do an Opposed Willpower Test. Those that pass gain Hatred (Psykers) while those that fail are more frightened than angry.
Hasaba casts Doombolt at Soldier 2 who fails to Dodge, doing 4 and 9 damage to his head, putting him at -3 (deafened). The third bolt hits his body, doing 4 damage and putting him at -7, stunning him forever, basically.
Olga fails Agility and is partially blinded by blood (-10 WS/BS) strikes at Soldier 1 with Kaali (38 vs 61) and hits, Soldier 1 attempts to Dodge but fails. He takes 5 damage, fails Toughness and takes 6 more damage from Toxic, putting him at -1. She strikes with Salaatti (52 vs 56), doing 11 damage. He passes Toughness but is at -12 anyway, losing his arm, dying, spasm-firing and hitting Hasaba for 7 damage before AP/Toughness.
Squad A Runs around the corner to take in the situation and terribly fails the Fear Test. Knight prepares to flee, two Veterans fall unconscious, one stares.

Fear Results:
Squad A - Knight flees in terror, Veteran 1 frozen in terror, Veteran 2 faints, Veteran 3 catatonic.

Mid Round 2 Enemy Summary:
Squad A - Knight about to flee in terror, Veteran 1 frozen in terror, Veterans 2, 3 unconscious.
Squad B - Soldier 2 is frozen in fear, everyone else shaken but ready to fight.
Squad C - Sergeant and Soldiers 1, 4 dead, Soldier 3 is catatonic and bleeding out, Soldier 2 is stunned for a long long time. Squad is entirely neutralised.
Squad D - In cover, Sergeant and Soldiers 1, 3, 4 useless in combat, Soldier 2 ready to fight.
Squad E - Unseen, inside farmhouse?

Alright, they were in without a fight, much to his pleasure (and his brother's disappointment). Once they're out of earshot of any townsfolk, Kaas turns to the others.

"Alright, now what? I say we head for the chapel, pretend we're looking to worship. With any luck we'll be able to find a way to the defenses from there. Or if the subtle approach fails, at least we'll be as close as possible before the fight starts."

Paz
Wounds: 13/13

With every enemy in this group neutralized, Paz sets her sights on the next group of poor idiots, closer to the big corpse piles. One has actually managed to keep wits about him and his bowels unvoided. He has to go next. He still has a gun.. The ones who've fallen over or frozen can be dealt with later.

"SOLDIER BOY! YOU ARE STRONG TO HANDLE THE PAZ. BUT CAN YOU HANDLE.......THIS?

Paz rushes towards the soldier in group D, then drops her axe, one-hands the chemical-caster and squirts a burst of stinky hell juice at his squad, doing 12 damage, with Toxic (1).

Round 2

Initiative:

9 Squad E - War-Priest, 2 Shield Sisters
8 Squad A - Knight, 4 Veterans (Laslock)
7 Paz
6 Squad D - Sergeant, 4 Soldiers (Flintlock)
5 Squad C - Sergeant, 4 Soldiers (Flintlock)
4 Squad B - Sergeant, 4 Soldiers (Melee)

As the last fighting enemy nearby falls to Olga, Paz steps forward, discards her trusty chainaxe, and draws the Fire Caster. Before they can react, the offending gunner and his comrades are hosed down with wild sprays of caustic chemical brew. The wooden crates providing cover soften, deform and collapse, and all five soldiers are doused with corrosive liquid that soaks through armour and burns the skin before boiling away into the atmosphere. The Farmhouse wall also catches a lashing, the sturdy wood and stone construction foaming slightly on contact.

With one terrified comrade fleeing around the corner ostensibly to get reinforcements, and the rest incapacitated, the remaining fighter eschews his flintlock and instead draws out and lights a primitive grenade. Hate in his heart, his aim is true and the small bomb sails just past Paz to land in the midst of the heretics and, unfortunately, their victims. The grenade detonates with a flash of fire and smoke, splinters of metal and burning debris flying out. Xiulan and Paz manage to leap out of the way, but Olga is either too slow or doesn't care and is caught directly in the blast, though her flak armour absorbs almost all the impact.

The two incapacitated soldiers who had been reeling from the violence inflicted on them are not so lucky. As they get shredded by the wave of fire and metal, their own grenades and black powder detonate in turn. A series of new blasts erupt and they're torn apart, while Xiulan, Olga and Paz get barraged with bullets and various fragments of bone, armour, and grenade casing. On top of that, Xiulan and Olga are drenched in blood and gore, leaving heretic-shaped silhouettes on the wall behind them.

Across the yard, the Sergeant attempts to rally his troops with equal part threats and encouragement, but none of them show new resolve. He fires a flintlock pistol at Paz in frustration, but the shot goes wide and skips off down the road. Finally, the squad (except the soldier frozen in fear) begins to move, heading north-west around the yard.

Paz Half-Moves toward the enemy, drops her Chainaxe, Quickdraws her Firecaster and sprays Squad D. All members either fail the Agility test (even with one-handed firing penalty) or cannot move. With Toxic damage, Sergeant takes 13, 1 takes 12, 2 takes 6, 3 takes 12, and 4 takes 6. The cover they were behind is also destroyed.
Squad D Soldier 2 draws and throws an Iron Grenade at the heretics, hits target area perfectly, 9 raw damage. Paz and Xiulan successfully Dodge out of the blast area, Olga fails and takes 0 damage. Soldier C-3 is caught as well and takes 3 damage, killing him and detonating his grenade as well, 12 raw damage. Olga takes 3 damage. Finally, Soldier C-2 takes 6 damage, is chain-killed and his grenade detonates for a mere 6 damage which Olga ignores. Their ammunition also cooks off, doing 7 (2m) and 10 (7m) raw impact damage. Xiulan takes 3 damage, Olga takes 2 damage, Paz takes 0 damage. The explosion of gore also blinds Olga and Xiulan, they have -10 WS/BS next round. :xcom:
Squad D Soldier 4 flees in terror, disappearing into the Farmhouse.
Squad B Sergeant attempts to Terrify his squad into not being afraid! He passes his Command test and lets them re-roll failed Fear tests. They fail. The squad Half-Moves north-west. The Sergeant fires a Flintlock Pistol at Paz, missing completely.

End of Round 2 Enemy Summary:
Squad A - Knight about to flee in terror, Veteran 1 frozen in terror, Veterans 3, 4 unconscious.
Squad B - Soldier 2 is frozen in fear, everyone else shaken but ready to fight.
Squad C - Squad destroyed.
Squad D - Cover destroyed, Sergeant and Soldiers 1, 3 incapacitated and injured, Soldier 2 injured, Soldier 4 fled into Farmhouse.

Brulgem, The Dire Bear

Brulgem nods at Kass. "Yes, I believe that we should try to at least recon the area. We may be lucky and the anti-air weapons are out in the open, and we can just launch a missile or two at it." He punctuates his point by patting the large canvas bag with the six tubes in it.

Okay, seriously, I do want to know if we are seeing/hearing AA guns going off at all.

Hasaba

Hasaba looks out from behind the corner of the building that sheltered him from the blast; the soldiers guarding the road have been wiped out, and the centre of the battle seems to have shifted towards the farmhouse. Quickly, he runs to join his companions closer to the action, moving towards the next corner of the building.
Trying to ignore the bleeding hole in the Warp opened by Xiulan, he stares intently at the soldiers that haven't died or fled. The veterans, led by the man in heavy armour, aren't in any shape to fight, and the squad equipped like the road-guards are much the same. But the men on the other edge of the village centre, despite being the poorest-equipped, seem to have the best morale; the exhortations of their leader have snapped them out of the panic that Paz's arrival caused, and they seem to be manoeuvring for a counter-charge. Hasaba focuses his mind on the man leading them, and tries to summon a bolt of warp-energy to strike him down, hopefully breaking the morale of his men.

Unfortunately, unlike Hasaba's previous target, the soldier commanding the melee squad hasn't done anything to raise Hasaba's ire; the warp-power he's gathered lacks a proper focus, and dissipates harmlessly.

Hasaba takes a half-move to the next corner of the building, taking advantage of whatever cover is available. For his attack, he launches a Doombolt at the sergeant of squad B. Same as before, it's a target number of 73, with 48 Will, +10 Focus, +15 Psy rating.

Unfortunately, I rolled 87, failing the Focus Power test. At least I don't need to roll for Perils on top of that.

8 Squad A - Knight, 4 Veterans (Laslock)
7 Paz <<<We are here now
6 Squad D - Sergeant, 4 Soldiers (Flintlock)
4 Squad B - Sergeant, 4 Soldiers (Melee)

Xiulan stalks towards the subject of her ire, and before he can escape her gaze she launches an anger-fuelled bolt of fire that catches him as he disappears around the corner. The extremely unfortunate Knight disappears into the Farmhouse trailing smoke as his uniform catches and he begins to burn properly. Her reckless use of the Warp causes the world around her to rebel in response, and all the nearby structures and trees begin dripping with blood, fashionably coordinating with her own blood-soaked style. A few spectating extra-dimensional daemons sigh in disappointment, but eagerly await the next opportunity to break into reality and devour everyone's souls.

Hasaba stacks up behind Xiulan a moment later and attempts to blast away the next most threatening enemy leader, but fails disappointingly. Perhaps Xiulan disturbed the Warp too much, or perhaps he just doesn't have enough hate and ambition in his heart? Pushing harder certainly couldn't hurt.

Olga, comprehensibly covered in the blood of her foes and a bit of her own, begins screaming wordlessly at the remaining enemies with all her might, psyching herself up with her own original war dance that leaves little to the imagination.

The War-Priest, spiritual commander of this battlefield emerges and takes stock of the situation. Everyone appears to be dismembered, screaming or on fire and foul witchcraft permeates the air, but he steels himself and makes sure his followers do the same. The two Shield Sisters take up position around him, intent on interdicting any attacks made upon his person. Raising his hammer to the sky, he booms out, "Rally to me, faithful of the Emperor! We will drive back this wickedness and purge it from our land!"

As the flaming Knight disappears, the remaining sane, combat-capable Veteran sidles into some cover and notes the daemon-spawned Paz standing in the middle of the road. He quickly raises and aims his beautifully-made laslock, but just as he pulls the trigger Paz ducks to the side and the lasbolt sails past, blowing a small chunk out of a stone wall. He swears profusely and reaches for another charge pack.

Xiulan recklessly casts a Push +5 Fire Bolt at the Knight, who fails the Dodge (a 100!) and the Agility test to avoid being set on fire. He takes 10 damage and is ON FIRE. Everything is bleeding.

Hasaba attempts to Doombolt a Sergeant, but the spell fizzles.

Olga spends her turn entering Frenzy.

Squad E Runs onto the battlefield (-20 to shoot them, +20 to stab them). The War-Priest has no time for this 'Fear' silliness and spends a Fate Point to use Pure Faith to ignore it. Shield Sister 1 passes her test. Shield Sister 2 fails and wants to flee in terror. The War-Priest attempts to rally his follower to reroll their Fear test. He succeeds his Command test against Paz's Willpower, and the Sister passes.

Squad A Knight is too busy fleeing in terror to care about being on fire and takes 4 damage from the flames, disappearing into the farmhouse :supaburn:. Veteran 1 fails to Snap Out of fear, continues staring in horror. Veteran 2 Half Moves into some low cover and shoots at Paz, hitting easily at this short range. However, Paz Dodges even easier with a 5.

Jocyn Adventure Squad

The Temple grounds dominate much of the northern end of Jocyn, separated and protected by a well-built stone wall, giving the Temple better protection than the village's palisade.

There has been no sign of anti-air fire of any sort today, not including that which assailed the drop-pod early this morning.

Common Lore: War +20 tested, Kaas passes: It would take a huge weapons system to meaningfully threaten ships in low orbit, whether it used missile, las or cannon. Such installations would be fully-fledged fortifications on their own, or integrated into larger ones such as hive cities. They might well be present on this planet, but there are none in Jocyn. What assailed your drop-pod would be a much smaller, local system capable of shooting down atmospheric targets such as shuttles and fighters. Laser weaponry would have line-of-sight range up until the atmosphere scattered and absorbed its killing power, while missiles could have a range of tens or even hundreds of kilometers depending on their type.

An example of what might shoot into orbit.

Paz

Paz eyes the priest and his bodyguads. That looks like a fine challenge. But there's still so many annoying guys with guns out here. Since she came down with this cold, she's felt more robust than usual, but at the same time she also started feeling sort of.....wibbly-wobbly. Like she's somehow not exactly occupying space in the same way as other things do. She feels like ink that hasn't fully set on paper yet, like she could...smudge somehow. Those musket balls and laser beams might be enough to do it, she feels.

"MELT. gently caress YOU AND MELT INTO SLIME."
Paz tries to give the soldiers another squirt with the corrosive tox-juice, but a valve on the fire-caster pops as pulls the trigger. A pathetic dribble of poison drips out of the nozzle. gently caress! This looks like it will take several minutes to get back into working order. She turns on her heel and running back to where her friends are, slinging the modified flamer across her back, before baseball sliding the last meter to her axe, picking it back up and rising to face the priest in the middle of the square.

She issues a challenge:
"COME AT ME, SNORE-PRIEST. ENTIRE IMPERIUM BELONGS IN GARBAGE CAN."

3 Shambling Mutant

Paz takes advantage of the clustered enemies before her, many of them unconscious, and sprays her deadly device with wanton abandon before bolting back to where she dropped her axe. Unfortunately, the sprayer is perhaps too eagerly waved and after an initial phlegmy cough, something clogs up the intricate pipework and not one of her foes are subjected to a torrent of deadly brew. It will take a lot of careful prodding to get it working again.

The remaining active flintlock gunner, emboldened by the appearance of the War-Priest, takes aim at Paz and fires. The bullet hits her left leg, dinging off the flak plate without doing any harm. He curses, considers the lengthy reloading time of his musket, and goes to retrieve one of his allies unused weapons.

Undeterred by their hideous foe, the distant melee squad is united in purpose and enters a slow jog, approaching Paz in preparation for a charge. The Sergeant pauses briefly to raise a second flintlock pistol and fires at the fearsome pseudodaemon, the shot striking dead-center on her shield before ricocheting off into the distance. The Sergeant curses his luck and gets ready to lead the charge against her.

Just as both sides ready for close combat, a terrible keening and crackling pierces through the various screams and explosions. From between the southern blood-weeping cottage and the farmhouse tears a mutant horror, a conglomarate of what looks like horse and human(s) melded together. Shambling at great speed on a collection of twisted legs and arms, it grabs one of the incapacitated gunners and begins shoving it into a large, central mouth. Needless to say, this is very shocking for everyone involved.

Paz shoots her Fire Caster one-handed and catches three squads in the arc. However, instead of delivering a brutally lethal payload across multiple enemies, Spray weapons jam on a roll of 9. The canister of fuel is wasted, and it will take a Full Action Ballistic Skill test to clear it. Incidentally, 9 is Tzeentch's number.

Squad D Soldier 2 fires their Flintlock Musket at Paz and hits, Paz fails to dodge. The bullet strikes for 9 damage on the left leg, which has 9 AP+TB so no harm done.

Squad B Soldier 2 manages to Snap Out of their fear, and can act normally with a -10 penalty. Soldier 4 fails to Snap Out and keeps their -10 penalty. The whole group does a Full Move towards the heretics. The Sergeant Quick Draws another Flintlock Pistol, fires at Paz and hits. But the 9 damage is completely soaked by her combined 11 chest AP+TB.

The Shambling Mutant emerges from the small round building, Charges to Squad D and eats Soldier 3. It has Fear (1) because of its shocking nature. The Gladian soldiers are already desensitised thanks to seeing Paz, so Xiulan, Hasaba, and Paz must make a +10 Willpower Test to resist fear. The final Shock result is 10 for every Degree of Failure, add another d100, and further modified up or down by your Infamy (Pick the result you like most!). Olga has just Frenzied and doesn't care.

Hasaba scrapes a pass.

Struggling to keep his nerves, Hasaba barely manages to resist his urge to hide behind his cover. "What is this thing? Could it be another servant of the gods, like Paz? Is it a mere spirit, using dead flesh to reach through to our world? She mentioned a wizard, though. Could he have created it?"

Hasaba shook his head, and emptied his head of pointless speculation. "It might be an enemy, but for now it's attacking the Gladians. The Gladian soldiers still outnumber us - if they stay where they are, though, the beast might deal with them for us."

With that, Hasaba raised his bow, and, as quickly as his arms could manage and without any concern for accuracy, sent a quartet of arrows flying towards the unengaged Gladians massing in the centre of the village.

Just in case, I'm using Psyniscience as a free action to take a look at the mutant. For his main action, Hasaba is using his composite bow to launch suppressing fire at squads B and E, which I'm assuming is possible since Barrage lets it fire as a full-auto weapon. For Psyniscience, Hasaba's perception is 46, with no modifiers. For suppressing fire, Hasaba has BS 41, with a -30 penalty, so he's incredibly unlikely to hit anything, but that doesn't matter.

Xiulan leans around the side of the bloody building and launches a firebolt at the approaching infantry Sergeant - a powerful blast that could vaporise him, but he sees her intentions and twists out of the way before she can cook him alive. Before the Gladians can enact their witch-focused revenge, Xiulan backs up quickly along the side of the house, hoping to get the drop on them if and when they come around the corner.

Hasaba decides to leave the terrifying monster alone for now, brushing briefly over its presence with his finely-honed warp sense. Obviously enough, it seems directly tied to whatever befell this place, an unnatural combination of semi-living human and animal driven to consume others. With that in mind he takes a more tactical view, and instead of raw damage tries intimidating the enemy. Drawing and shooting a barrage of arrows almost faster than the eye can see, the Gladians throw up their shields to block the sudden onslaught, momentarily confused by what seemed like the appearance of several archers worth of arrows. The Sergeant quickly gets over the shock, realises it's just Hasaba shooting wildly and exhorts his group onward. At the same time, the two Shield Sisters throw themselves in front of their War-Priest, a few arrows clattering off their shields. His righteous charge spoiled by their defensive action, the War-Priest can do little besides wait for them to let up.

Olga, dripping with accumulated gore and by now completely insensible with anger, notices the large, twisted mutant beast entering the battlefield. Whether because it looked like a challenge, it was stealing her kills, or some other qualifying condition, she decides it must die by her hand alone. Bolting across the yard, she slams into the beast with both chainswords, shearing off bone spurs and withered limbs as she quests for the kill. Tearing huge gashes in what looks like the centre mass, a veritable wave of pinkish goo pours forth from the heart of the creature, an instantly fatal injury to anyone else. Despite the brutal blow, the monster simply shambles around to face her with the main horse-head.

Shouting proclamations of ruin and vengeance against his foes, the War-Priest coaxes his bodyguard into letting up their shield wall, in the hopes of regaining forward momentum. Taking in Olga slicing away at the hulking Mutant, he decides that heretical politics is beyond his ken and decides to leave them as they are for the moment, focusing instead on Hasaba, Paz and Xiulan.

Still surrounded by incapable comrades, the Veteran laslock gunner decides to try a different target and fires off a shot at Hasaba. Despite his training and enthusiasm, the las bolt goes wide and vaporises a small piece of hedge.

Xiulan throws a firebolt at Squad B's Sergeant and moves back. He manages to Dodge the spell, fortunately for him.
Hasaba sprays an incredibly frightening array of arrows at the enemy. Squad E's War-Priest fails to resist Pinning, extremely unheroic. Squad B's Sergeant passes and keeps his group moving towards Paz and Hasaba.
Olga rolls to pick a random enemy - the Shambling Mutant wins her attention. She Charges it. Hits with Kaali (44 vs 81), Mutant fails to Dodge, and Salaatti (23 vs 76), doing 13 and 16 damage, reduced to 5 and 8 damage by Toughness. It's immune to poisons so no Toxic effect. Zealous Hatred hits with Rending Critical - Body 5, making a slippery pool of blood. It is also suffering Blood Loss. All characters attempting to move through this pool of blood must succeed on an Agility Test or fall Prone.
Squad E stops moving and the War-Priest yells angrily about witches. They pass their end-of-turn Pinned test and can act normally next round.
Squad A's Knight fails to Snap Out of his fear, continues running around on fire and takes 0 damage. Veteran 1 fails to Snap Out of fear. Veterans 2 and 3 continue sleeping. Veteran 4 decides that Hasaba is a threat and fires his Laslock at him, missing completely.

Paz
Wounds: 13/13
Fire Caster: 0/3, Jammed)

Paz has always considered herself a brave woman, but that....is one ugly loving horse. She isn't ashamed to admit to herself that she's a little bit spooked. But whatever, you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover, and one of the new people seems to be dealing with it. It shouldn't be a problem.

What is a problem is that the lovely War Priest and his dumb Shield Sisters are still out there, acting all high and mighty like they couldn't have done anything to help with this plague. Nope, just let Paz's town and husband and baby die, then come out of the big cathedral to burn bodies. She bets they were too busy praying to the Emperor on Terra. Stupid priests. Stupid Emperor.

"DID YOU NOT HEAR? PAZ SAYS EMPEROR IS HUGE GARBAGE GOD OF poo poo! HE IS FAKE OR DEAD OR USELESS. COME OVER HERE YOU BITCH, I WILL MAUL YOU."

Paz raises her arms towards the War-Priest and the Shield Sisters in provocation, before bending into a Defensive Stance. She glares over her shield with her eerie green-blue eyes, her hand clutched around the axe's trigger.

Paz taunts the Squad E, trying to indicate that she wants to fight them personally.
Paz enters defensive stance, adding +2 AP to all locations for the duration of the turn, with attackers getting -20 to hit her for the duration.
