For some reason I was looking up steel mills and electric arc furnaces earlier today, I had seen pictures of them and had a basic understanding of how they worked but no idea they were so violent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6Uxh-xtU-g (Warning: loud) That's when things go right, here's what happens when things go wrong: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTKodUpErR8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RYCXDUt2m8 (Warning: loud) Anyway that got me thinking it would be a cool thread idea to post your favorite big fuckin' machines doin' big fuckin' machine stuff and/or exploding. Please don't post any videos where someone actually dies or gets dismembered or something though, that would be really horrible. I want to see mankind's hubris at thinking he can control raw elemental fire be his undoing but not his actual death.

Aw hell yeah, now I don't need to feel so weird for watching videos like these! Although I have a feeling we're not going to be the only posters crossing over from the guitar thread... For content, I used to watch this substation explosion video over and over again. It's low-fi and ancient, but I just love the way it sounds. (And yes, I'm still trying to recreate it as a guitar tone.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkDCS8xeobg

Considering how absolutely *massive* the Tianjin explosion was, the quoted PRC casualty count (a mere 200) seems like complete nonsense. I'm willing to bet money a *lot* of people died when that much Potassium Nitrate went up. This is why regulation is A Good Thing. Speaking of storing way too much fertilizer, the kaboom boom in West, Texass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1UbSYOxhjU From another angle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on-M7z_xFBE

blunt for century posted:What is it in these substations that is so flammable/explosive? No idea but I got to see one blow up in person and it was loving insane. I was a kid and we were out in the rain and lighting hit one near us so we biked over to see what happened and it was in flames. Fortunately the fire department showed up quick and made us back off before it blew up. Also why do the Chinese film everything in portrait?
