So I installed a 4 port usb 3.0 express card in my PC. After installing, they appear to work fine as the only thing I have connected to it is an xbox controller, but for some reason, my mouse lags when using a different usb port on my pc. Also, windows displayed a message that my external hard drive is not connected to a usb 3.0 port (it is). Basically, my USB ports directly on the motherboard are not working properly. The device manger also shows the yellow exclamation indicator on both the PCI memory controller and the SM bus controller options. Attempted fixes. -I installed the rosewill rc508 drivers from the manufacturers website and restarted. I re-installed and restarted windows again -Updated my motherboard bios -Disabled the PCI memory controller and the SM bus driver, then restarted after sleep mode as a workaround (didnt work) I havent made any changes except installing the the PCI express card. Im running win 8.1, asus z170 a motherboard on my custom build (i5 skylake, samsung ssd, gtx 1070) on windows 8.1 I should also say the drivers listed on the rosewill site are only up to windows 7. American yep, Ive googled the issue Thanks in advance guys. Dr Blah PhD fucked around with this message at 03:58 on Dec 11, 2016 |

This sounds a lot like a problem with those drivers. Looking at reviews, many users have reported issues running Windows 8 and 10. Your best bet is probably to return the card and find one with better support. If you really want to to test this further you could try live booting into Ubuntu, as it seems to work in Linux. I mean, its a simple usb express card (one of the most popular on amazon actually), and all signs point to some firmware/software problem. https://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-Express-Expansion-Connector-Renesas/dp/B011LZY20G But Im hoping someone knows a good workaround or fix for it.

I found this thread which might have something that could be helpful: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/renesas-usb30-hostcontroller/35f1e5da-f548-458f-a1bf-42d4e25b8fe8

CaptainSarcastic posted:I found this thread which might have something that could be helpful: I looked into that, and I havent found a solution, though Ive narrowed it down to a possible error with "Intel's eXtensible Host Controller". In the device manager, the USB controllers are fine. Though, in the "other devices" option, I have the exclamatio indicators on both the PCI memory controller and the SM bus controller. Now heres the interesting thing, I have a renesas electronics folder in the start menu, and when I try to open the usb 3.0 host controller utility, I get a "USB host controller not found" Ive downloaded just about every intel host controller driver and yet it doesnt resolve the issue.
