Chess Sets range the gamut from conventional to unconventional looking. Out of the following, I like the Zagreb set the best. The rounded edges and clean lines are very appealing to me. -Biedermeir - Chesterfield - Old Dutch - Ravenna Which ones do you guys like?

Four Worfs, four Rikers, four Datas, and sixteen Enterprises? The transporter done hosed up this time.

Wow, the choices of character for piece is...interesting? I get that thematically, Riker should be the "Queen" but...yeah they clearly aren't going to do that. The Queen obviously () has to be a woman. Especially for a set made in the late 80's/early 90's. But the Knight? Worf should be the Knight! And then Riker as the Bishop makes an ok amount of sense...I guess? I feel like Troi would (again, thematically) make more sense as the Bishop, but I get you can't just NOT put Riker in the set. Data as the Rook I'm ok with, I guess. Actual Enterprise-D's as the pawns is interesting...not sure what else they could have used. A bunch of fuckin' Wesleys? Lol...or some boxy-rear end Type II shuttles? Edit: Wait, is the other side OG NCC-1701 Enterprise? No bloody A, B, C, or D? They look different. Second edit: Ok, found a close up picture of them from an eBay listing and... I still can't tell what ship the other pawns are meant to be: It's too "wide" on the secondary hull to be a Constitution class ship like the OG Enterprise. Doesn't look like a Nebula or Miranda class... Enterprise C, perhaps? DrBouvenstein has a new favorite as of 16:31 on Jan 5, 2024 |

For their 15th Anniversary, the manga artist group Clamp released a 12 issue monthly magazine called Clamp no Kiseki. With each issue they included 3 chess pieces of their more popular characters. Sorry about the low-quality picture, there's few decent photos of the chess pieces online. Mrs Randalor actually has a full set, I'll see if we still have them in storage after several moves. Edit: I also have an "aztec onyx" chess set at home if people want pictures. It was $20 from a thrift store for pretty looking stone pieces and a heavy stone board. I expected a CLAMP set to have really long stilt-like legs and was disappointed that they're just, like, chibi

I mean, at the size of the pieces, if they had Clamp's usual proportions, they would snap in the slightest breeze.

That Man Ray chess set is gorgeous and I wish I could find an affordable and beautiful replica. I really don't want to spend $700 on a chess set when I am terrible, but the cheaper versions all have bad scrolls on the knights, or the pieces look wonky in some way. Probably because it's difficult to carve those! Randalor posted:Edit: I also have an "aztec onyx" chess set at home if people want pictures. No pics, but mine was this beautiful white and jade version. It looks like the design was used with a variety of colors. e: this! Pic not mine so don't @ me about the board state. I grew up playing on a Soviet chess set very similar to this one: As I was often told, you could tell it was Soviet because the king had a little knob or point on top, instead of a cross.

Anyways, more of my collection: A very round and simplified chess set from (west) Germany, it is annoying to distinguish pieces while playing: A fancy and round set, made out of annoyingly light wood feels very flimsy. According to my father they were made by my mother's father, but according to her grandpa just bought them. Clay chess pieces, made by my mother for my father:

I had a pocket sized magnetic travel set when i was growing up but I don't have it any more and I'll be damned if I can find a pic of it anywhere online. So instead, have this: From here. Created by the same person that made the "Going to the Store", "Late for Meeting", and "Time for Sushi" videos. Whether this thing is real is debatable, but I appreciate how ridiculous it looks.
