I don't have anything completely out of the ordinary. I picked up a Samsung 46" DLP back in September, and my girlfriend got me the Bose Lifestyle 28 Series III for the sound system. It feels a tad weak, so I may upgrade at least a couple of speakers before it's all said and done.

Or I'll just have King Hotpants come over again and see if he can tweak some poo poo and get it working properly.

Sony 55" SXRD TV
Denon 2807 receiver
Denon 2930CI DVD player
Sonus audio setup
Comcast PVR (alas)
Atlantic Technology System 370 speakers, with an extra pair of the surrounds bought off of eBay for 7.1.

The DVD player and TV are connected to the receiver with HDMI cables, the cable box got Outlaw component video cables which the receiver converts to HDMI, and the Sonus uses coaxial digital audio cables from whatever brand was cheap.

Oregon Scientific HD dual DVR
Pioneer Elite CLD-99 Laserdisc Player

I spent almost $2,000 on my stereo (all bought used) so I didn't really have any money left over for an HDTV. Bubble TV's reprazent!

That said, it still kicks rear end.

Denon DVD-2800
Some cheap RCA 4 imput switcher
Denon PRA-1500 pre-amp
Rotel RB-980BX 120W p/ch stereo amp
Energy C-9 4-way tower speakers
Audioquest GBC speaker cables
Audio-Technica ATH-A700 headphones
PS2, Gamecube
Some old Philips 37" tube TV

The shell is off the DVD-2800 because I'm in the process of fixing it.

Will be moving into an apartment soon (I'm in a big, reflective garage currently) so SQ should improve, although I won't be able to play things nearly as loud. :(

i used hot bot to search for "teens"

The main bit is a 37" Olevia. The receiver is a Yamaha HTR-something 6.1 channel thing that I just picked up on eBay for $50 to replace my old Technics ProLogic receiver, which can be seen on the bottom right shelf.

The DVD player is a Toshiba SD-3990, which is awesome because it will play XviD right off of DVDs and CDs.

Center channel is a Sony that I stole from my parents. It's getting replaced soon. Main speakers are Athena AS-B1s. Sub is an Onkyo 10", and rears are some cheap tiny little Pioneers that need to be replaced.

The TV stand is an Ikea.

Which is very useful when it comes to dealing with levels. The big thing I miss from moving from my 5.1 setup to a stereo setup is being able to just turn up the center channels volume on quiet dialog tracks.

I've feel I've managed to put together a nice audio set on a tight budget while in university. I've had a real job for more than a year now, so time to upgrade some parts I guess (yay!).

Excuse the crappy cameraphone pic:
Mordaunt Short 902i Pearl Edition
Philips DVD963SA with van Medevoort modification.
TA-10 T-amp.
Crappy old Philips TV + Samsung cable box
Tardis USB hub

The MS's are extremely nice sounding speakers for the price (bought 'em discounted for 75 euro each). I bought the DVD/SACD combo second hand, again one of the best performing units in it's pricerange. The modification helps a lot, too, they dealt with stuff ranging from upgrading some capacitors to inserting a heavier bottomplate.

The T-amp delivers a staggering 2x15 watts of RMS power - I've my HD595's for loud listening and an old, badly isolated house, so I'm perfectly willing to have it not go too loud. The sound is very well defined and crisp, it's only a bit worse than the bigass Jadis I borrowed from a friend to test.

True, I didn't think of that. However in the larger 'surround sound' sense it's not doing much at all and if you want to control levels there are far less expensive and simpler ways to do so, like having a graphic equalizer.

I know, but having a center channel is nice since you can just completely isolate 95% of the dialog in a film.

I screw you out of your money!
Been working on it for a while. My room turned from a 2-person baby blue painted, ugly old blue carpeted room fitted with big massive executive desk and 20 year old double bed into my dream cross bedroom/home theater room.

8 speakers and 1 sub woofer later...

Using a yamaha av receiver, sharp projector (decent, but not mind blowing, budget here), LG STB/HDD/DVD Recorder, 19" HD 1080i LCD for general TV viewing (not connected to reception yet), and a toolbox.

And finally I stuck my computer away where an old bookshelf used to be... Dell 24" LCD, Logitech G15 keyboard, and basic 34cm CRT TV used until I get my LCD TV set up.

Hope you like my new room :)

My uncle who is super rich bought the panny 65" for like 9G's about a month ago, its funny how almost immediately after he bought it samsung came out with a tv with probably better picture quality and only 2 less inches for HALF as much.

I'm pretty sure those Insignias are not magnetically shielded - that's why i never bothered with them. I'd move your computer further away from those speakers.

or as suggested above, get some speaker stands.

Just picked up the Toshiba 42HL167 tonight. I'll post a shot of some 1080p goodness once my sister gets back with a digital camera and my HDMI cable arrives, which should be about the same day.

20" Daewoo flat screen tube TV
Yamaha HTR-5550 5.1 surround receiver
2 Dayton Bookshelf BR-1 kit speakers made during an IEEE workshop
Toshiba DVD player with Divx capability

Future setup: ( All but the receiver still in boxes awaiting the move to Atlanta next week)
40" Sony Bravia 1080p HDTV (not XBR series)
Toshiba A2 HD-DVD player
Same Yamaha receiver as above
Klipsch RB-61s as fronts
Klipsch RB-51s as rears
Klipsch RC-52 center
