TV: Samsung 40" 720p LCD (LNT-4042H)
STB: Motorola DCH-3200 (Comcast)
Receiver: Who knows, I suspect it's older than I am
Nintendo Wii
Sony PS2 (Slim model)
HTPC: Core2duo-based, running Linux/MythTV (build info here)

MythTV is running the MePo-Wide theme, and it looks loving great on this tv :)

Unfortunately, the TV stand we have currently has a closed back, so I can't put the HTPC in it or it overheats. I have a remote programmed for the HTPC, so the keyboard and mouse aren't used but I leave them plugged in just in case.

Here is my setup. From October, layout is the same for the most part but new paint, no Farve and the cigars are moved elsewhere
Insignia TV

most humbling part? My brother's cigars sit in my room and are worth more than my whole setup (Its a cabinet to the left.)
For a college student who doesn't have a job, it works.
EDIT: Oh yea, as you can see by the lack of a DirectTV box, this is exclusively for gaming and the occasional movie. I'm considering putting in a satellite box, but I have enough poo poo in my room to distract me from school as is.

my living room setup

samsung 56" 1080p DLP

shelf from top to bottom:
myfi xm2go xm radio
dlink wireless-G router (hence the blue cat5 running up the stairs to the switch in my room)
motorola HD-PVR over HDMI (piece of poo poo, flakes out all the time)
360 over VGA
panasonic 5 disc dvd player that always says it's too hot.
panasonic HT receiver that does DTS and 5.1 but not much else. it's old, and was a low end model that i got a good deal on at the time. it no longer outputs the left front channel, so im in the market for a replacement.
hole in the bottom of the shelf is where the HTPC should live, but it's at a buddy's place getting fixed/setup. athlon xp 2500+ running mythtv.
cat.
tv stand has dreamcast, ps2, and vcr.

front speakers are a pair of merak 250s (250 watt, 15" woofer) that i got a killer deal on, rears are merak MB66 (can't remember exact model numbers). centre is an ancient realstic thing that works surprisingly well, considering it's 1. ancient, and 2. realistic.

the only expensive part in the whole setup is the tv, the rest is all a hodge podge of stuff i've picked up over the years when the deals were too good to pass up. extremely happy with the tv though.

I was going to put off posting pictures until I made some changes, but meh.

46" Sony Wega LCD Rear Projection (I forget the model, but it's 720p only)
Harman Kardon AVR-247 (up-converting all analog/digital inputs into a single HDMI output rocks)
Energy Reference Connoisseur RC-30 towers
Energy Reference Connoisseur RC-Mini center channel
Energy Reference Connoisseur RC-Mini satellite surrounds (not shown)
Xbox 360
I'd have a Wii in there somewhere but my roomate has one upstairs. She has a 42" 1080p Sharp Aquos LCD, some yamaha surround package that came with it, and the aforementioned Wii. I just steal it when I want to use it or use her TV.

I was planning to get the RC bookshelves with the matching tweeters and woofers(they match the RC-30's) but they're $800 and I don't feel like dropping that right now. I went out and bought the mini bookshelves though and to be quite honest, I like these. They're smaller, still sound awesome, and I don't know if I'll ever want to jump up to the big ones. I'm also not sure if I want a sub, as these towers put out quite a bit of bass on their own. Maybe when I buy a house and don't have to worry so much about my neighbours...

Here's a quick pano of the basement livingroom where my TV, stereo, and computers are.

On the far left is my HTPC in a crappy old case. Next week my new Lian-Li PC-V1200 arrives so my current PC's guts (right beside the HTPC) are going into it. Then the HTPC guts will go into the old black case which is a SHITLOAD quieter and cooler than that old beige beast. Should make the room less noisy and slightly better looking, because this room is fugly.

Next on my list is a reclining sofa and loveseat so I can get rid of the futon visible on the right and my crappy couch not pictured. I just need to train the kittens to not destroy everything they touch.

P.S. I'm also trying to figure out the best position for the tv, stereo, etc. I wish I could knock down a wall and get rid of an unused storage area under the stairs. It would give me many more options.

This is my personal home A/V system, as I dont own my own place yet and being a student its nowhere near as fancy as a lot of people's, but its still well over spec for a normal computer system.

I have 5.1 speakers from Tannoy, which I do like, but they are small and designed for movies, and a Sony STR-DB790 amplifier. in the two years I have had it I haven't had a fault and personally I love it, its brilliant for 5.1 games. all that is missing now is the audigy X-fi. For the time being the audigy 2 I have is more than good enough.

Mmm mmm mmm, just made some additions to my otherwise non-existent system:

-Panny TX-32LX60, for € 200! I would've saved for the way better LX70 until this bargain came up, but now I can enjoy a decent HDTV while waiting for the LX70 to drop in price.

-Monitor Audio RS1's: oh yes sir, I LOVE these. The house sound from MA's is ideal for my taste in music, and I was glad to toss my B&W's away to make some room for thes puppies.

-Toshiba SD-370 DVD player. Terrible looking remote, and a freeze or two every other movie, but boy that picture quality is fine.

Currently waiting for an Onkyo 9755 amp to arrive... for 200 euros, new and unopened.

You can get a 50-pack of velcro fasteners (like zip ties, but reusable!) at Home Depot for a few bucks. That's a good start :P

Wrap power cables in one bundle, A/V source cables in another.

we have 1.0TB of SATA II in RAID 5 in our server for the PVR to record stuff to as well, 500GB of it is full of music and video already, and we are considering buying 3 more 500GB drives to expand it, to bring it up to 2TB. on the up side we are never going to use all the storage, and it will be hard to make it all die in one go through a normal mechanical failure.

If you want a diskless setup then it is pretty easy to have those DVD images start taking up a ton of space. I could easily fill 1.5tb with dvd images. For HD media 1.5 is peanuts.

It goes much faster than you'd think. I put 4x500g drives in my HTPC in RAID-5 for approx 1.5TB of usable space. ~300g of that is for the PVR recordings (hd/sd), the other 1t is for "everything else" which includes my entire cd collection digitized to mp3 with LAME -V0.
