I honestly hope he gets the production and sound quality issues ironed out well before he sets an end date for the free podcast.

a $15 yearly subscription wouldn't bother me in the least. With the amount of fans he has, that would be enough to get him a good chunk of change, and seems like a reasonable price for a subscription.

I just listened to the Calacanis podcast. It was really good, but loving hell did Adam piss me off at the end with not buying into the whole advertising thing. I think that they need to sit down Adam and loving tell them that advertising on podcasting is taking a 50cal sniper rifle approach to advertisements and that companies do pay out.

I stopped listening to Gervais when he charged (A move that was pure greed on his part) and I'll probably stop listening to Adam too. Or as someone else said, just pick and choose the ones that sound interesting.
Wasn't really greed on Ricky's part as it was Steve & Karl. Karl had no job after quitting XFM, and Steve, as old fans know, is notoriously tight with money. So they both wanted a bite of the cherry.

It might have stopped some of his download sales, but just yesterday I saw the "Top Audiobooks" section of iTunes, Ricky, Steve & Karl were every single entry there in the Top Ten. So monetizing the podcast MAY work out in some cases.

However in Adam's case, I don't think he has a wide enough reach in comparison to Gervais, I would kind of consider paying just because I'm such a big Adam fan, but I don't think the numbers would turn out to be very good at all.

I think he's still looking at it in radio terms, where the advertisers do dictate content to a large extent. He's reluctant because he doesn't want to be censored, and I don't think he understands that internet advertising isn't going to censor him.

I wouldn't pay for Carolla's podcast. There's too much free media out there to really justify payment. I like his podcast, and listening the TACS podcast, but it just isn't good enough to warrant payment.

Frankly, his podcast is a little hit and miss and Adam's ego has gotten just too big. I like him when he's humble, and that's why when Drew comes on it's great balance because Drew pushes back against him.

He should try what Radiohead did with their last album, the customer chooses what to pay for it, or not to get it free.

I'd argue the reason people won't pay for podcasts is that its a loving hassle.

You have to sign up for a service, wait for the confirmation e-mail and then confirm the confirmation e-mail. Then you have to dig out your wallet and type in all your information again. It is a stupid loving hassle and I'm a big Adam Carolla fan but if he is going to wallow in his ignorance despite all the advice given to the contrary and charge for podcasts he can blow me.

I'd actually disagree with that. If you get it through itunes, one of the major selling points is that it's very convenient to subscribe to. I'd pay if it was dirt cheap and the subscription length is lengthy, but I doubt Adam's thinking of following that way.

I wonder if Carolla knows about Assetbar. The Achewood fanflow is a pretty awesome use of the technology--he could just do podcasts instead of cartoons about cats and stuffed animals.

He's going to be on the podcast, which is what 90% of the discussion in this thread seems to be about since Adam went off the air. http://twitter.com/adamcarolla

just finished. I think I liked this one the least so far. The thing I like about this podcast is that its just adam talking with someone and having a interesting conversation. This is the first podcast where I felt like he didn't have a flow with his guests. He even padded it with audio clips from the movie. But I guess its hard when the guest doesn't want to talk.

I'm still a big fan of the podcast though. I was a big fan of his loveline show, but couldn't get into the morning show. I like how its just him and his guest and his stories. Tyson just felt a little awkward.

DrVenkman

Yeah Tyson is awkward as a guest. Which is why they had James Toback there. To be honest though I would've loved an hour with just Toback.

Mar 16, 2009

Pretty much what I expected out of Tyson. The great thing about the podcast is that he's only had guests that have wanted to be on. With Tyson, it was essentially just a phoner for his morning show. Tyson wasn't really that interested, so, it's the shortest podcast to date.

The only good part was when Tyson called out Toback for his backhanded compliments towards Robert Downey Jr. It was one of those great Hollywood phoney moments.

I love Adam Carolla and all, but did we already talk about how the Podcast with The Family Guy creator was just an hour of two guys talking about how loving smart they were? If Adam heard anybody else have the conversation those two guys had, he'd call them blowhards with their heads stuck up their rear end. I understand they were both a little bit drunk, but holy loving poo poo.

Adam usually goes on about how he tries to reach out a broadcast to smart people. I don't think tooting your own horn is that big a deal when everyone else has a horn as well.

Yeah his thought process I think just went insane on this podcast. Attack crows, bug attacks, jerk-off towels, and venereal disease-sniffing dogs for the majority of the first half of the show.

I listened to the first 25ish minutes of the show three times before moving on, it was really very entertaining.

Still, I guess it's not too bad. It's not like this is Lost or something.
