If you try to pick up any item and fail it then gets dropped on the ground, it's no longer in "treasure state." Any items dropped on the ground are lost when you return to the Nexus.

The bp stood there bowing while I casted it twice, and it did nothing. He was pretty close as well. It works, but only if they're near you, and even then it isn't guaranteed to work. I don't know why, maybe it's lag or something.

Kill the primeval demons that show up when you get a world to black tendency (one in each world, not stage, so there are 5), there's one in 1-1 near Miralda, and you can get two from the crow in 4-1, take a look at the wiki page for more info on that.

Two questions. Firstly, does anyone have any figures on how much white/black tendency move enemy/boss HP levels? I downed the Red Dragon in my first run through on neutral (defeated Phalanx then forgot to suicide in the Nexus so back to neutral), and counted a total of 1440 damage done (last hit was for 20, so he has between 1421 and 1440 HP). However, I guess this is of limited usefulness considering most players will be +1 white at this point, how much does that move things? Also, I'm looking into upgrades but nervous of going down the specialisation paths without much idea of what I'm doing - and there are so many different weapons on the wiki that I'm finding it tough getting an overview. What's the consensus on things that are worth making into Crescent/Dragon/Quality etc? I'm thinking: Quality - Winged Spear? I have no idea Crushing - Guillotine Axe, largely because it sounds cool. Sharp - Winged Spear again, based on the wiki (it has the stats listed so I assume it's a good choice, also I have loads of them) Tearing - Scimitar largely because I'm now quite experienced with it and love it. But if Mercury stacks (see below) then I guess Kilij? Dragon - Knight Sword seems to give the best stats Mercury - I'd love this on the Scimitar if it stacks with bleed damage. If not, Secret Dagger, but again, because it sounds cool rather than based on clever sums Fatal - Mailbreaker? I assume extra crit is for backstabs and the like? Moon - less relevant for me as I'm primarily melee, so I think this will definitely be for New Game +(+), but I like the sound of a Moon Bastard Sword. Crescent - the Uchigatana seems to be the logical choice based on stats. I don't suppose this is the same as the Kris Knife i.e. boosts the damage of your magic as well? Blessed - Knight Sword based on stats, but a Blessed Mace sounds a bit cooler Vicious - I guess has the be the Vicious Compound Longbow Dark - Purple Flame all the way. I suppose for completeness I should state that I'm working on a [b]Scimitar +10 and [b]Mirdan Hammer +10 for the hard/sharp stone trophies as well. Any tips/hints?

Crescent - The Kilij is usually recommended for this. It hits faster than the Uchigatana and its strikes are generally more useful, especially its heavy strikes. It doesn't increase magic damage like the Kris Knife. Blessed - I used a Mirdan Hammer for this. If it weren't for that I would have gone with a Blessed Great Sword. But I have a thing for bigger weapons in this game. Fatal - It seems most people use a Secret Dagger for this, but it looks to me like the Estoc might have higher damage. I'm not sure, I never got around to upgrading very far along this line. The Secret Dagger has more slashing attacks so it would probably be more useful when not doing backstabs/ripostes.

Not as high a multiplier as the others, but its base damage is WAY higher so it's actually viable as a regular weapon, and it still crits for like 6x damage on a backstab and 8x on a riposte. Also the range and it's quite fast and light.

Ahh, the wiki had said at one time that the Estoc could go to Fatal but I never tried it. Are you sure that the Winged Spear crits for 6x/8x? I thought that was just daggers and knifes(rapiers). That's the only thing that was keeping me from using the spear for this.

Someone said that using Dark Silver Shield together with the Talisman of Beasts actually reduces magic damage. Is this true? I tried this on the skeletons in 1-1 and it didn't seem to make any difference. I heard this on gamefaqs. I'm just going to assume that whoever said that is replacing their +5 Kris Knife for the Dark Silver Shield, which is why the damage is cut.

Revised list based on your feedback, thanks guys! Quality - Winged Spear? I have no idea Crushing - Guillotine Axe, largely because it sounds cool. Sharp - Winged Spear again, based on the wiki (it has the stats listed so I assume it's a good choice, also I have loads of them) Tearing - Scimitar largely because I'm now quite experienced with it and love it. But if Mercury stacks (see below) then I guess Kilij? Dragon - Morning Star - for skeleton bashing, anything that makes them easy is good news, given how much farming seems to be based around them. Mercury - I'd love this on the Scimitar if it stacks with bleed damage. If not, Secret Dagger, but again, because it sounds cool rather than based on clever sums Fatal - Winged Spear Moon - less relevant for me as I'm primarily melee, so I think this will definitely be for New Game +(+), but I like the sound of a Moon Bastard Sword. Crescent - Kilij Blessed - Mirdan Hammer / Great Sword (although I still hanker for a Blessed Mace, but I suspect that's because I haven't swung one yet) Vicious - Compound Longbow Dark - Purple Flame all the way. Does anyone know if a Mercury Scimitar would do poison and bleed damage?

Even as a melee (knight, highest stat is strength) guy, until I got a +4 dragon morning star, a Crescent Falchion +1 was my strongest weapon for a loooooooooooong time. I got my scimitar up to about +7 just from running 2-X (I ran 2-2 sooo many times before I got Flamelurker down it was actually just ridiculous), so that's been my top for ages. I don't entirely get your point on the Dark Purple Flame Shield. From what I can see, the only use for stones is upgrading shields, and none of them are any easier than the others (I might be mis-reading the wiki), so assuming I'm targetting Plat somewhere in the distance, I don't have much choice?

I know the game has been out far too long, and I've only just bogarted IGN's import copy for the weekend, but I've never felt such simultaneous anguish and exhilaration while playing a game.... well, uh, poo poo, maybe ever. And it's my job to play hundreds of games a year. This game hates me. And I love it. I truly understand abuse now, and it's not making my creeping addiction any less powerful. I have a very, very basic idea of what I'm supposed to do, but that really doesn't help too much. My hope is that Atlus really takes the reins and fosters a community when the game hits here in the States because without it, you guys are kind of the only real resource for help. And I'm still not even sure what the hell I'm doing. I just rolled a Royal because I was told that's the best way to go.

Honestly, any weapon upgraded to the Dragon line and maxed out will be incredibly powerful. It doesn't scale with stats, so it starts to suck after a while, but it won't realistically start sucking until you start getting relatively high in Soul Level. My Dragon Longsword +5 (I know I know, I should have upgraded a Knight Sword) is only just now being outpaced by my Moon Winged Spear +5 at close to level 80. Really, I like the magic-based weapons as a primary Melee fighter because the magic or fire damage ignores armor and tends to deal a lot of damage to normally tough enemies. The fire damage also stuns a lot of humanoid enemies (since, after all, it lights them on fire), which can be crucial. I switched from a Strength-heavy build to focusing more on the Magic stat, and so far the Moon Winged Spear has treated me very well. The magic damage portion is also part of why the Meat Cleaver is so loving strong--half of its immense damage is magical, though it scales partially on Faith.

How do people de-level? It takes stats off you if you use Allant, I'm sure of it. So how is this useful for PvP at all? If you do this and revert back to level 50 from 100, what's the point? I have heard of people using this to invade lower levels but I don't understand it. If it takes a level and removes a stat, it's not giving you any advantage over the characters you're invading.
