The DJM-600 has *four* outputs. Master out RCA, master out XLR, booth out and record out. I record from the master out and connect booth out to my speakers.

it's never a problem for me? I just set it so that it comes into audacity at a little under halfway up (-3 db) and then normalize it afterwards.

Use the record out instead of the master out if you can Sound quality is going to be pretty poo poo either way, I hate the DJM 600 for recording

vanilla slimfast posted:Use the record out instead of the master out if you can I swear the 600 has some built in limiter / compressor /whatever poo poo in it, cuz I really feel it fucks with levels in some way I can't exactly put my finger on. I don't like those things one bit.

The overall sound-quality of the DJM-600 is below average when compared to most more recent mixers, and absolutely poo poo when compared to the likes of a Xone:92. I always thought the difference would be minor, until I recently switched to an Evo-4. The difference is phenomenal. The stupid little buzz that was always present in all of my recordings is gone and the quality of the sound is way, way better.

This is a "one-shot" dubstep mix I mentioned thinking about doing last week, after doing a drum'n'bass mix for Expansion Broadcast. Recorded this past Sunday night, rougher tunes then some of my other dubstep mixes lately, long mixes, some double drops and also a little bit of goofing around with effects and doubles. For the curious, I used Serato and a DJM-600. Monitors are connected via the XLR outputs, recorded through an iMic connected to the booth output. EXBC Podcast #164 part 2: Harry Ransom (dubstep) BLOG POST | DOWNLOAD 1. Nero - “This Way” 2. Reso - “Onslaught” 3. Luke Envoy - “M.U.G.E.N.” 4. Seven - “The Darkness” 5. Zero G - “Universal Dub” 6. I haven't posted in SA-Mart yet, going out of town for a bit, but I'll probably post when back. If anyone wants links to the lists, drop me a PM.

Thanks for the input. I'll probably do it as raw as I can right now and go with a direct line to the comp, since my first gig is probably going to be through word of mouth rather than my stellar promo cd. The night scene in San Antonio is utter poo poo, but it is undergoing a bit of pick up lately... I haven't used the DJM600 for recording yet, but it's a poo poo load better for mixing than the Numark m3 I learned on. Still, for 100$ it did its job...

How come mixes are never released in seperate-track format? It makes it inconvenient to listen to, unless you've just got them playing all day every day.
