My experience: 3 years of experience working in the operations department (NOC) for three separate web hosting companies (can provide names in private). Tasks included building the servers (Dell tower and rackmount, HP and Supermicro rackmount), repairing RAID arrays, customer upgrades, answering the phones and tickets, light to intermediate admin work on Windows and Linux servers when the customer needed help due to said tickets and phone calls, and being on call 24/7/365 for disasters. Basic datacenter stuff, I suppose. What I'm looking for: A job where I actually have a chance to learn. At my last job, if I had two spare seconds, another physical task was given to me (I was known as the hands-on guy) so I did not have much of a chance at all to sit there and hammer away at tough tickets and learn, like my friends did. Cram me in the operations center of a datacenter or other such facility and give me some time to study harder Linux issues instead of repairing degraded RAID arrays all day and I'll be more than happy. What I'm not looking for: Anything with a primary focus on telephones. I'll happily answer tickets and build servers all day, and I'm not some phone-shunning recluse, but I'd rather work in a warehouse than answer phones all day. Where I live: Dallas, Texas Where I'm looking: Basically anywhere but Dallas, though I would prefer the east coast. Bonus points for NYC (loved my time there). I have come to hate living here and I am both willing and able to relocate at a moment's notice for a decent job. When I can start: Immediately, and I can provide references who will say I am not a lazy moron if need be. I resigned from my last job because the stress was so great that it was affecting my health and that of numerous friends. Things were so stressful and miserable that people, I poo poo you not, got into shouting matches that had to be broken up before punches were thrown. If that's not a sign something was horribly wrong with the way things were being run, I don't know what is. Requirements: Decent pay and benefits and a work environment that is at least somewhat relaxed. I just want a decent IT job outside of Dallas. Anywhere and anything will suffice at this point. Know of anything?

My education experience: Graduating with a 4 year Computer Science degree in December. Minored in Information Design. I've worked on many personal programming projects and really enjoy working on code. What I'm looking for: A software engineering/development position. I'd like to work on something challenging that allows for some creative freedom, but I'm not terribly picky on the exact topic. What I'm not looking for: Something not code development related. Although I've been working help desk and IT jobs mostly, that's only because no one hires teenagers for coding positions. I've been working on software engineering in my free time and now that I've gotten a degree I want to start doing so professionally. Where I'm looking: I'm open to move anywhere that speaks English. When I can start: January 2010. Requirements: Competitive pay and benefits. Summit fucked around with this message at 02:51 on Nov 24, 2011 |
